Summary

This document details the anatomy of the pharynx and larynx, including their structure, functions, and associated conditions like diverticulum and swallowing difficulties. The document covers aspects like arterial supply, the laryngeal inlet, the cricopharyngeus muscle, and Killian's triangle. Also details the components of the larynx, vocal cords, and related topics.

Pharynx & Larynx -chp1 Saturday, October 26, 2024 5:26 PM Anatomy of Pharynx &… C6 2 layers of voluntary pharyngeal layers External circular layer : 3 constrictors Internal longitudinal layer : + - Stylopharyngeus - Salpingopharyngeus - Palatopharyngeus Swallowing Tonsillar bed : Arterial supply of the palatine tonsils Ascending pharyngeal artery Ascending palatine artery Maxillary artery Lingual artery Tonsillar branch of facial artery The laryngeal inlet is used to refer to the entrance of the cavity of the larynx The piriform sinus ( piriform recess ) is a small recess on either side of the laryngeal inlet and it's separated from the inlet by the aryepiglottic fold Laryngeal inlet The cricopharyngeus is at the top of your esophagus. It opens (relaxes) to let food in and then closes. When you swallow food, powerful muscles in your throat push food down toward your cricopharyngeal muscle. When this muscle doesn’t relax as it should, food gets caught in a muscular squeeze play that puts pressure on your pharynx wall. Over time, the pressure pushes tissue through the wall to make a pouch. == pharyngeal diverticulum Swallowing difficulties Inferior pharyngeal Constrictor muscle Killian's triangle is a triangular area in the wall of the pharynx between the cricopharyngeus and thyropharyngeus. Þ When the mass of lymphoid tissue becomes larger and block the passage behind the nose, causing obstruction of the nasal airways = Adenoids hypertrophy Decrease in size The tonsils are a set of lymphoid organs which is known as Waldeyer's tonsillar ring the adenoid( pharyngeal ) tonsil two tubal tonsils two palatine tonsils the lingual tonsils The larynx (voice box) is a hollow tube in the middle of the neck. It's the upper part of the trachea. Cavity lined by mucous membrane Unpaired cartilages The supraglottic part comprises the section between the inferior boundary of the hyoid bone, epiglottis, and the vestibular folds, also known as the false vocal cords. The ventricle of larynx is the portion of the larynx responsible for phonation; it consists of the true vocal cords, laryngeal ventricle, and the arytenoid cartilages, which adjust the width of the glottis. The infraglottic part exists between the inferior boundary of the glottis to the inferior margin of the cricoid cartilage, at which the trachea joins Upper part of the larynx including vocal cords Lower part of the larynx
