Controls everything the computer does. Hardware All of the physical devices, or components, of which a computer is made. CPU Part of a computer that actually runs programs. Most important component in a computer. Today, CPUs are small chips known as microprocessors. Main Memory Computer’s work area. Computer stores a program. RAM CPU is able to quickly access data stored at any random location in RAM. Volatile type of memory. Secondary Storage Devices Hold data for long period of time. Disk drive. External storage devices. Flash memory. Input Devices The component that collects the data and sends it to the computer is called an input device Keyboard Mouse Touchscreen Scanner Microphone Digital camera.
