1.1 overview of ped PT ped PT PT work w their families bc they have a strong desire and unique talent for working w children and their families -working w individuals from birth thru adulthood w mvmnt dysfxn -individuals and families/caregivers goal of ped pT maximal fxnal level of independence promote active participation in the home, school and community settings: -natural learning environments -school -childcare centers -preschools -job sites -hospitals/clinics: for other conditions/acute focus on ped PT 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. promotes independence increases participation facilitates motor development and fxn improves strength enhances learning opportunities eases caregiving promotes health & wellness implement a wide variety of supports in collaboration w families, communities, HC providers, education, developmental and rehab specialists increasing participation: v important daily activities and routines home: family, friends, caregivers school: environment, buildings, going from one grade to the next, educating teachers/students community: sports, extracurriculars, going to store ect 1.2 CDC’s learn the signs; act early surveillance tool purpose free= good accessible for everyone surveillance guidelines -75% = can do : increase awareness of what kids should be doing at specific developmental ages monitoring tools free check lists: skills not strict guidelines (AAP)-american academy of pediatrics AAP ages checklist= ages well check visits family engagement -how baby should be playing, learning, speaking, moving -parents and caregiver=babies first teacher communication tool -bw caregiver/parents and physician communication tool: concerned about your child’s development? 4 action steps 1. 2. 3. make an appointment w childs doc share your child’s checklist and any concerns ask about developmental screening : can be done by parent/caregiver, teacher ect -can see if pt is w/in age range 4. if still concerned after screening, ask if your child needs to see a specialist -this is only if pt is falling below their age range ex: SLP, OT, PT -specialist completes evalv to see if they benefit from services *parents: DONT WAIT, act early =increase awareness, increases advocacy im leaving just in case we want to add notes class 7 during *for ages 2 months and up… 75% of kids from each age groups should be able to do these things listed* check list needs to be taken to all of childs wellness checks!! 1.3 age 2 months CDC development surveillance 1.4 age 4 months CDC developmental surveillance 1.5 age 6 months CDC developmental surveillance CDC website= videos and pictures of what these will look like 1.6 age 9 months CDC developmental surveillance 1.7 age 12 months (1 yo) CDC developmental surveillance 1.8 age 15 months CDC developmental surveillance
