PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER FACTORS TO CONSIDER DURING DAILY PHYSICAL ACTIVITY PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER Physical Education WARM-UP EXERCISE It prepares the heart and circulatory systems and stretches the skeletal muscles. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER Workout It follows the FITT formula: frequency, intensity, time, and type. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER Cooldown exercise It helps the body recover from physical activity. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER FLEXIBILITY EXERCISES PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER FLEXIBILITY EXERCISES Each person, depending on his/her individual need, must have a reasonable amount of flexibility to perform efficiently and effectively in his/her daily life. The range of motion (ROM) in the joint indicates one’s flexibility. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER Guidelines for Safe and Effective Stretching PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER 1. Warm the muscles before stretching. 2. Perform stretching exercises for each muscle group and at each joint where flexibility is desired. 3. Begin to stretch muscles of small joints in the extremities first, then progress to the trunk and to the larger joints. 4. See to it that there is a good body alignment when stretching. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER Supplemental Stretching Exercises for Flexibility PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER 1. Lower Leg Stretch This exercise stretches the calf muscle and Achilles tendon. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER 2. Standing Thigh Stretch This exercise stretches the hip flexor and thigh muscles. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER 3. One Leg Stretch This exercise stretches the hip flexor and thigh muscles. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER 4. Wand Exercise This exercise stretches the front of the shoulders and chest. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER 5. Trunk Twist This exercise stretches the trunk and the muscles on the outside hip PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER Health benefits of flexibility and stretching PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER Helps in attaining good posture Prevents muscle strain and orthopedic problems like backache Enhances athletic performance PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER MUSCULAR STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE EXERCISES PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER MUSCULAR STRENGTH AND ENDURANCE EXERCISES muscular strength is the amount of force you can produce with a single maximum use of a muscle group as in lifting weights, while muscular endurance is performing exercises repeatedly without getting tired or to withstand repetitions of the muscle training exercise. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER WEIGHT TRAINING This is an organized exercise in which the body’s muscles are made to contract with weights, body exercise, and other devices to stimulate growth and strength. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER Basic Strength Training Principles PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER 1. Selected strength exercise Choose exercises that are multi-joint rather than single-joint movements. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER 2. frequency of the strength training. The benefits of strength are determined by the intensity of the exercise you performed (short or high intensity weight workout) with approximately appropriate rest and recovery periods after the workout. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER 3. number of sets performed You should perform one set with maximum effort using perfect mechanics and techniques. Make sure you do not overlift or perform more than you are capable of lifting in a sale manner. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER 4. NUMBER OF REPETITIONS PERFORMED PER SET Higher repetitions during your weight lifting session stimulate muscle fibers, while lower repetitions during weight training at a higher intensity increase strength and muscle size which is important for overall athletic training. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER sets and repetitions A set comprises some exercises you perform without stopping, about ten on average. A repetition is one performance of a single exercise, a squat with dumbbells is an example. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER sets and repetitions A set comprises some exercises you perform without stopping, about ten on average. A repetition is one performance of a single exercise, a squat with dumbbells is an example. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER Guidelines for Safe and Effective Resistance Training PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER 1. Start with weights that are too light so that you can learn proper technique and avoid soreness and injury. 2. Lift at a slower cadence to provide more stimulus to the muscles and increase strength benefits. 3. Choose an exercise sequence that will allow for muscle groups to have a chance to rest before doing another set. 4. Include all your body parts and balance the strength of antagonistic muscle groups or muscles that have the opposite action from those that are contracting. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER 2. Weight This is the heaviness and lightness of a person. Equipment: Weighing scale PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER 3. Height This is the distance between the floor to the top of the head in a standing position. PHYSICAL EDUCATION 8 - FIRST QUARTER 4.
