WOOD 07 October 2024 Literature Review Purpose: Identify the gaps in knowledge, implement EBP guidelines, and develop a research project Quantitative: ○ Creates a method to plan, implement, and excute the study , ○ cite relevant sources, ○ documents background and the signifigance of the study, ○ identify theoretical ideas to guide the study Qualitative: ○ compare and combine study findings with literature, ○ Background, ○ source of data, ○ to explain, support and extend research theory Typical Sources Include: Periodicals and journals, internet publicaitons, monographs, encylopedidas, confrence papers, theses and diserations, books, and tectbooks Where you can find sources: Academic libraries, special libraies- hospitals, sigma theta tau center for nurisng, interlibraires loan, online search, public libraries, Google scholar Suitable Database for Nursing: CINAHL-Cummulative Index to NUrsing and Alliede Health Literature ( The largest index with the most valuable sources , Medline, Ovid, ebsco host, gale cenage, cambridge scientific Types of Souces 1 Primary: Writeen by the person who conducted the research/is responsible for generating the ideas published Secondary: Paraphrase the works of the researchers and the theorists that comes from the primary authors’ thoguhts Sources must be current- published within the last 5 years Landmark Studies: may be included if essential to the background of the problem and is often known as “groundbreaking” studies How to Wite a Review of Literature 1. Purpose: Document current knowledge of selcted topic + indoicate findings ready for use in practice 2. Outline: a. Intorduction- Determine the focus, Organizes the sources: Most to least importnant, earliest to most recent, catagories b. Empirical Literature- Paraphrases the study and give a critque c.
