ICT 10 LESSON 2 Network architecture is the overall design of a computer network that describes how a computer network is configured and what strategies are being used. It is also known as network model or network design. Peer is a device that participates in a network and has same functionality. Does not require a dedicated server If one computer stops working, the other computers connected to the network will continue working. Security and data backups are to be done to each individual computer. Normally used in small network with less than 10 computers Client-server - requires server SERVER It provides centralized control over the network resources. Servers are commonly stored in a data centers. 1. File server – stores data and allows client to access their shared files often through LAN. 2. Database server – used to store large amount of related data 3. Web server – allows clients to request and receive webpages through web browsers or http/s. 4. Mail server – sends, receives, stores and manages email. 5. Cloud-Based File Servers Cloud storage services like Dropbox, Google Drive, and OneDrive serve as file servers accessible via the internet. Resources and data security are controlled through the server. Can be use either small or large number of computers. If and when the server goes down, the entire network will be affected. Can become very costly due to the need of a server as well as networking devices
