Republic Act No. 8371 AN ACT TO RECOGNIZE, PROTECT AND PROMOTE THE RIGHTS OF INDIGENOUS CULTURAL COMMUNITIES/INDIGENOUS PEOPLES, CREATING A NATIONAL COMMISSION ON INDIGENOUS PEOPLES, ESTABLISHING IMPLEMENTING MECHANISMS, APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR, AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES This Act shall be known as “The Indigenous Peoples’ Rights Act of 1997”. NON-REGISTRABLE PROPERTY - Natural Resources within ancestral domains u ANCESTRAL DOMAINS ICCs Indigenous Cultural Communities Rights of ICCs The State recognizes and promotes the rights of indigenous cultural communities within the framework of national unity and development (Art. II S. 22) The State, subject to the provision of this Constitution and national development policies and programs, shall protect the rights of indigenous cultural communities to their ancestral lands to ensure economic, social and cultural well- being.
