BOCA RATON POLICE SERVICES DEPARTMENT Standard Operating Procedure 41.14 MOBILE INCIDENT COMMAND UNIT Revised: November 17, 2011 I. PURPOSE: The purpose of this standard operating procedure is to set up guidelines for the operation, maintenance, and use of the Department’s Mobile Incident Command Unit (MICU). II. POLICY: It is the policy of the Boca Raton Police Services Department to designate a vehicle for use as a mobile incident command platform that shall be used as a command center in the event of a critical incident. III. USE AND AUTHORIZATION: 14.02 A. The MICU is a specialized vehicle to be used as a base of operations for critical incidents including, but not limited to, the following: 1. Natural disasters 2. Aircraft crashes 3. Train derailments 4. Hazardous material spills 5. Hostage/barricaded persons situations 6. Civil disturbances 7. Extensive crime scene investigations 8. Special events. IV. EQUIPMENT: 14.02 A. Equipment to be carried within the MICU shall include at a minimum, the following: 1. Fire extinguisher 2. Fax, copier, and scanner 8. Television monitors 9. Computers. OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE: 14.02 A. Only personnel who have received instruction, certification and/or licensing regarding its use shall operate the MICU. B. The Special Services Bureau (SSB) commander shall maintain a list of authorized personnel to operate the MICU. The list can be found on the Department’s Intranet. C. The care, maintenance, security, storage, and inspection of the MICU are the responsibilities of the SSB commander. 1. The SSB commander or his/her designee shall inspect the MICU monthly. 2. Inspections will be documented in the vehicle module of the records management system. Approved: Daniel C.
