You are a big creation machine and you are turning out a new manifestation literally as fast as you can think. ~ Neale Donald Walsch METHODS OF PAYMENT Prepared by: Ms. Cherise Osbourne OBJECTIVES O After completing this lesson you will be able to: O List the methods in which customers may pay for their meals O Discuss the correct procedures in handling cash O Discuss the correct way in dealing with discrepancies Methods of Payments O Cash O Cheque O Credit Cards O Debit Cards O Traveller’s Cheques O Vouchers O Cash O Check in the presence of the customer O Re-count change before handing to the customer O Verify cash is not counterfeit O An itemised and receipted bill should always accompany the change O Cheque O Correctly dated O Ensure payable to the correct company O The correct amount is filled in O Signature is by the cheque holder O Signature is the same on both the cheque and ID card Credit Cards/Debit Cards/Charge Cards O Entering of pin for the debit card O Signature is the same on both the credit/charge card and ID card O Customer is billed at the end of the month for purchases made on credit/charge card O Traveller’s Cheques The customer must: O Date the cheque(s) required O Make the cheque payable to the correct establishment O Sign cheques in the appropriate places The cashier must: O Match the signatures O Ask for identification O Give change where needed in the currency of the traveller’s cheque O Vouchers O Check expiry date O The difference should be paid if value of food is over the value on the voucher Dealing with Discrepancies O Always double check O Always apologize O Fake bills – (Do not accept, Explain why, advise them to take bills to the police station) O Suspected fraud – (Call the company, follow instructions by the company, offer customer telephone to contact the company) Service Charge O A service charge is a fee collected to pay for services related to the primary product or service being purchased. O The charge is usually added at the time of the transaction. How to Calculate Service Charge? O Service charge percentages will vary from country to country. O In Barbados, the service charge is 10% in the hospitality & tourism sector. O For example: Three course plated lunch is $40.00 per person plus 10% service charge. O Calculation: $40 x 0.1 = $4.00 O Total bill = $40 + $4 = $44.00
