Theme: a universal idea or Notes on Theme lesson explored throughout a work of literature, movies, and music. Remember: Themes can be applied to situations outside of the text! THEY SHOULD NOT CONTAIN CHARACTERS’ NAMES or SPECIFIC TITLES—They are general Theme Topics vs. statements. Theme Statements Theme Topic: What is the difference an idea that an author may explore in a between a theme topic and text. This is short one or two words. a theme statement? Examples: love, friendship, revenge, growing up What theme topic can you connect to the story? Theme Statement: (n) The specific lesson about the theme topic the author wants the reader to walk away with.
