MARTIJA TEACHER II BATAAN NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL- SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL SENDER MESSAGE CHANNEL OR MEDIUM RECEIVER FEEDBACK OR RESPONSE COMMUNICATIVE SETTING BARRIERS SENDER Also called as encoder or speaker. Roles/ Functions are: ❑Crafting a topic/ conceptualizing ❑Encoding ❑Transmitting the message In other situations and communicative setting, the receiver or other participants can be a speaker or sender. MESSAGE ❑To be delivered or imparted to somebody. ❑The information or the content that the sender wants to convey. CHANNEL/ MEDIUM ❑A type of media that is used to transfer a message. ❑The means by which the message is sent. Examples: Five senses ( main channels), phone, television, laptop, fax machine, radio, post office. RECEIVER ❑Also called decoder, listener and audience ❑The one who receives the message and decodes it. Even the speaker delivered the message well, if the listener or receiver did not receive the message properly or not even paying attention, the communication fails. FEEDBACK OR RESPONSE ❑ The indicator that the listener received the message. ❑The reply or answer to the message of the sender. COMMUNICATIVE SETTING 2 components Physical Location- usually chosen for the purpose it will serve. For example, a classroom is used for teaching and learning. Psychological Setting- depends on the participants on how they will use the location. For example, a classroom is used for teaching and learning but it can be used for rehearsals. NOISE/ BARRIERS ❑Anything that interrupts the communication process. ❑An element that should be avoided. TYPES OF NOISE Physical Noise ( loud sounds) Examples: Barking dogs, motorcycle engines, your seatmates who talk while discussing Psychological Noise (emotional conditions) Examples: Sadness, depression, confusion, anxiety TYPES OF NOISE Physiological Noise ( Body Pains) Examples: headache, toothache Semantic Noise Examples: jargons, mispronunciation LET’S WRAP UP THE LESSON! What are the elements of communication and its roles? Do you think communication proceeds smoothly when one element is removed in the process? Explain Note: Every element is connected. If they work properly and the barriers will be minimized, communication process will be smooth. ACTIVITY Read the short scenario and change the conversation to make the message clear. Answer and explain the questions below and use it as a guide in improving the conversation. 100 points. Mark: What are you doing, Arthur? Arthur: I am looking for a peso, Mark. Mark: I’ll help you look for it. Where did you lose it? Arthur: I did not say I lost it, Mark. I am just looking for one. Questions: 1. Who is the sender and receiver of the message? 2. What do you think is the channel used in the conversation? 3. What is the message of Mark to Arthur? What is the message of Arthur to Mark? 4. Is barrier present in the conversation? Explain. 5. If you were part of the conversation, what could you ask to Arthur to make the delivery of the message clearer? If you were Arthur, what would be your answer to Mark to make the conversation clearer?
