For carbon example, carbon is made up of carbon atoms and xenon is made up of xenon atoms. lesson 16 Elements and Compounds.notebook March 06, 2023 Each element on the periodic table has its own unique symbol. Examples: H Hydrogen O Oxygen Some abbreviations come Ag Silver (Argentium) from their latin names Co Cobalt When a symbol has more than one letter, the first is always a capital and the second is not. lesson 16 Elements and Compounds.notebook March 06, 2023 Atom An element is made up of only one kind of atom. Molecule Some elements exist as molecules (two or more atoms attached together), but there is still only one kind of atom. Ex: oxygen A compound is a pure substance that is made up two or more different elements that are chemically joined. Ex: H2O or water is a compound because it has more than one element, hydrogen and oxygen. lesson 16 Elements and Compounds.notebook March 06, 2023 Element Learning Activity (we will take this up tomorrow) Set the multimeter to this symbol When there is a 1 on the LEFT SIDE of the screen it does not conduct. When there is any number of the RIGHT SIDE of the screen it does conduct. Done? Don't forget the questions at the end of the sheet.
