BIOINFORMATICS Fahmida Binta Wali Assistant Professor, Dept. of Biochemistry & Biotechnology Faculty of Basic Medical & Pharmaceutical Sciences University of Science & Technology, Chattogram (USTC) What is BIOINFORMATICS?? Historical Background Historical Background Historical Background Why is Necessary?  The need for bioinformatics has arisen from the recent explosion of publicly available genomic information, such as resulting from the Human Genome Project.  To gain a better understanding of gene analysis, taxonomy, & evolution.  To work efficiently on the rational drug designs and reduce the time taken for the development of drug manually. Goals of Bioinformatics To uncover the wealth of Biological information hidden in the mass of sequence, structure, literature and biological data. Scope Bioinformatics- Interdisciplinary Science Branches of Bioinformatics Branches of Bioinformatics Genomics Transcriptomics proteomics Broad coverage of Bioinformatics  functional genomics: Identification of genes and their respective functions.  structural genomics: Predictions related to functions of proteins. In this, we are going to do of the protein structure and what kind of protein work in our system.  comparative genomics: For understanding the genomes of different species of organisms. In this branch we're going to understand the genome of different kind of species and their relation between each other.  DNA microarrays: designated to measure the level of gene expression in different tissues, various stages of development, and in different kinds of disease. DNA microarrays are based on the target DNA sequence.  medical informatics: It involves the management of biomedical data with special reference to molecules for clinical trials or you can say in future input. Structure or component of Bioinformatics: structure-component-of-bioinformatics Creation of database: In this we create a database for different kinds of protein sequences. The creation of databases is the first step of the foundation of bioinformatics. We have to create a remarkable kind of data. It involves organizing, storage, and management of the biological datasets. The Database should be accessible and it should always have new entries in it. Structure or component of Bioinformatics:  Other steps of the foundation of bioinformatics is the development of algorithm and statistics: In this, we are going to create the development of tools and resources to determine the relationship among the members of large datasets. In this comparison of protein sequence start off with the wholly existing protein sequence. It is an example of the development of algorithms.  Main statistics: In this we compare the newly created database of protein sequence with already existing protein sequence. It is the last step of foundational bioinformatics. Its analysis of data interpretation includes DNA, RNA, and protein sequences, gene expression profiles, and biochemical pathways. So now we have created and built the database we have analyzed over the term and we have created many kinds of algorithms of knowing our data.
