Her work on caring has been integrated into nursing education and patient care globally. Born Margaret Jean Harmon on June 10, 1940, in Welch, West Virginia, the youngest of eight children. Graduated from Lewis Gale School of Nursing in Roanoke, Virginia, in 1961.
