ITPC 102: INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN-COMPUTER INTERACTION WHAT HUMAN-COMPUTER INTERACTION? Introduction What is Human-Computer Interaction? Human-computer interaction (HCI) is a multidisciplinary field of study focusing on the design of computer technology and, in particular, the interaction between humans (the users) and computers. HCI encompasses the study of how people use computers, the design of computer systems to fit human needs, and the ways to improve the user experience through better interfaces. ITPC 102:: INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN- COMPUTER INTERACTION WHAT IS UI? Introduction What is UI? UI stands for User Interface. It refers to the point of interaction between a user and a digital product, like a website, application, or device. It is the point of contact between humans and computers. Any technology you interact with as a user is part of the user interface. ITPC 102:: INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN- COMPUTER INTERACTION Introduction The UI encompasses everything a user interacts with, including: Visual Elements: Buttons, icons, text, images, and layout. Interactive Components: Forms, dropdowns, sliders, and other interactive elements. Navigation: Menus, links, and other means to move through the product. Feedback Mechanisms: Notifications, alerts, loading indicators, and other forms of feedback that let the user know the result of their actions. The goal of UI design is to make the user's interaction as simple and efficient as possible, ensuring a positive experience. ITPC 102:: INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN- COMPUTER INTERACTION WHAT IS UX? Introduction What is UX? UX stands for User Experience, refers to the overall experience a person has when interacting with a product, system, or service. UX design focuses on creating products that provide meaningful and relevant experiences to users. This includes considering the entire process of acquiring, integrating, and using the product, including aspects of branding, design, usability, and function. ITPC 102:: INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN- COMPUTER INTERACTION WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN UI & UX? Introduction Differences Between UX and UI Purpose UI: Focuses on the look and feel of the product. UX: Focuses on the overall experience of using the product. Scope UI: Involves designing visual elements like buttons, icons, and layouts. UX: Involves understanding user needs and creating a smooth, effective journey. Outcome UI: Produces the visual interface users interact with. UX: Produces the satisfaction and ease of use a user feels. ITPC 102:: INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN- COMPUTER INTERACTION Introduction Differences Between UX and UI Role UI: Works on the visual presentation and interactive components. UX: Works on the research, planning, and overall usability. Interrelation UI: Affects how visually appealing and easy the interface is to use. UX: Affects how easy and enjoyable the entire product is to use. Process UI: Focuses on the artistic side—choosing colors, fonts, and arranging elements. UX: Focuses on the functional side—how the product works and fulfills user needs. ITPC 102:: INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN- COMPUTER INTERACTION Introduction In simple terms: UI is what you see. UX is how it works and feels. UI is about the product’s appearance and interactivity. UX is about the overall feel and effectiveness of the product. Together, they ensure that a product is not only functional and easy to use but also visually appealing and enjoyable. ITPC 102:: INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN- COMPUTER INTERACTION Introduction Key areas of HCI include: 1. User Interface Design: Creating interfaces that are intuitive, efficient, and enjoyable to use. 2. Usability: Ensuring that systems are easy to learn and use. 3. Accessibility: Making sure that systems can be used by people with various disabilities. 4. User-Centered Design: Involving users in the design process to ensure the product meets their needs. 5. Interaction Design: Designing how users will interact with the system, including the flow of actions and the response of the system. 6. Cognitive Psychology: Understanding how users think, process information, and make decisions while using a system. ITPC 102:: INTRODUCTION TO HUMAN- COMPUTER INTERACTION END
