LESSON PLAN FOR ISLAMIC STUDIES WEEK: 2 DATE: September 17th – 21st, 2018 CLASS: JSS 3 LESSON TITLE: Sujūdus-Sahwī SUBTITLE (IF ANY): Features of Makkah and Madinah PERIOD: 1 DURATION: 40 Minutes LEARNING OBJECTIVES: by the end of the lesson, the students will be able to: i. define Sujūdus-Sahwī ii. mention the needs for its observance iii. state the two types of Sujūdus-Sahwī iv. description of Sujūdus-Sahwī KEY VOCABULARY WORDS: Sajdah: (Singular) Prostration, Sujud (Plural) Prostrations, Sujudus-Sahwi: Prostrations of Forgetfulness, Qabli: Before, Ba’di: After. RESOURCES & MATERIALS: A chart showing worshipper at Sujud position BUILDING BACKGROUND/CONNECTION TO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE: The students have being observing Salat (Prayers) and must have made a simple mistake or the others CONTENT: SUJŪD-US-SAHWĪ  Sujūd-us-Sahwī is the prostration of forgetfulness in Salāt.  It is the prostration observed to amend mistakes made while observing Salāh.  Sujūd-us-Sahwī is of two types, namely: 1- Sujūdul-Qablī : Prostration of forgetfulness before terminal Taslim. Sujūdul-Qabli (Prostration before the last As-Salam Alaykum) are two prostrations performed to amend the Salāt of a worshipper who omits (reduces) one of the eight Sunnah acts in Salāt or who combines omission with addition (increase) in the same prayer. 2- Sujūdul-Ba’dī : Prostration of forgetfulness after terminal Taslim. Sujūdul ba’di is performed as remedy, if a worshipper mistakenly adds/increases in Salāt an obligatory act, (such as a whole Raka’at) an emphatic Sunnah act (such as loudly reading where silence recitation is necessary) or two or more Sunnah acts. How to Perform Sujūdul-Qabli To perform the Sujūdul-Qabli, take the following steps after saying the last Tashahhud: a. Prostate, saying Allāhu Akbar b. Say: Subhana Lahi lahdi la yamtu wala yansa (Glory be to Allāh who neither dies nor forgets) c. Raise your head saying Allāh Akbar and sit properly. d. Repeat the prostration and the recitation as in A and B above. e. Recite At-Tashahhud again. f. End the prayer with As-salam alaykum wa rahmatul-Lahi to the right and left. How to Perform Sujūdul-Ba’di Sujūdul Ba’di is performed by taking the following steps after the last Tashahhud and Taslim from the prayer: a. Put forward a silent intention to amend or correct the errors through the prostrations of Ba’di. b. Prostate, saying Allāhu Akbār c. Say: “Subhāna Lahi lahdi lā yamtu walā yansā” (Glory be to Allāh who neither dies nor forgets) d. Raise your head saying Allāhu Akbār and sit properly. e. Repeat the prostration and the recitation as in “b” and “c” above. f. Raise your head saying Allāhu Akbār and sit properly. g. Recite At-Tashahhud again. h. End the prayer with “As-Salam alaykum wa Rahmatul-Lāhi” to the right and left. STRATEGIES & ACTIVITIES: ACTIVITY 1: The state and explain the meaning of Sujudus-Sahwi to the students ACTIVITY 2: They read the key vocabulary words with their meaning as shown by the teacher ACTIVITY 3: They listen to the explanation of the teacher ACTIVITY 3: They demonstrate what the teacher is explaining to them in the class ACTIVITY 3: They ask questions on grey areas of the lesson ASSESSMENT (EVALUATION): The teacher assesses the lesson through questioning such as: i. Define Sujūdus-Sahwī ii. Why do you think we need to observe Sujūdus-Sahwī sometimes? iii. How many types of Sujūdus-Sahwī do we have? iv. State the types of Sujūdus-Sahwī v. What is the meaning of Sujūdul-Qablī? vi. What is the meaning of Sujūdul Ba’di? vii. Can anyone demonstrate Sujūdul-Qablī and Sujūdul Ba’di for us to see? WRAP UP (CONCLUSION): The teacher wraps up the lesson by briefly recaps the lesson and correct any mistakes observed during evaluation and demonstration. ASSIGNMENT: The students are asked to identify the name of the first man ever created by Allah, why was he created and what happened to him later?
