LESSON PLAN FOR ISLAMIC STUDIES WEEK: 3 DATE: 24th – 28th of September, 2018 CLASS: JSS3 LESSON TITLE: Prophet Adam (AS) SUBTITLE (IF ANY): PERIOD: 1 DURATION: 40 Minutes LEARNING OBJECTIVES: by the end of the lesson, the students will be able to: i. narrate a brief life history of Prophet Adam. ii. deduce lessons from the life history of Prophet Adam. iii. apply lessons to daily life activities KEY VOCABULARY WORDS: Malaikah: Angels, Khalifah: Representative on earth, Turab: Sand, Awa’u: Eve, Al-Jannah: Garden of Bliss, Asmau: Names RESOURCES & MATERIALS: A copy of Al-Quran BUILDING BACKGROUND/CONNECTION TO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE: The students are familiar with it the story of creation of Prophet Adam (AS) and his wife with what transpired between them and Shaytan CONTENT: BRIEF HISTORY OF PROPHET ADAM.(AS) Adam was created to serve as representative on earth He was created from Sand/Clay The angels were not very happy with the creation of Adam as pronounced by Allah The Angels said that Adam’s children would disobey Allah and commit all sorts of sins Explain the method through which Allah honour Adam with/through knowledge A woman who doubled as wife in person of Awau was created from the rib of Adam Shaytān ( Iblis) misled Adam and his wife to disobey Allah Explanation on how they were chased out of Al-Jannah for their sin They both sought for Allah’s forgiveness and they were granted Muslims will be honoured because of their level education We should always abide by the laws and dictates of Allah We must seek for Allah’s forgiveness whenever we commit sin Allah is ready to forgive us Al-Quran 2 verses 30 – 37 should be read and digested before the lesson STRATEGIES & ACTIVITIES: ACTIVITY 1: The students read the topic on the board ACTIVITY 2: They read the key vocabulary words with their meaning as shown by the teacher ACTIVITY 3: They listen to the explanation of the lesson by their teacher ACTIVITY 4: They ask questions on grey areas of the lesson ACTIVITY 5: They mention some of the lessons learnt from the history of the life the Prophet (AS) as narrated by the teachers ASSESSMENT (EVALUATION): The teacher assesses the lesson through questioning such as: i. Who was the first person to be created by Allah ii. From what did Allah create man, Angels and Shaytan? iii. Why did Allah command Angels to bow for Adam? iv. What caused Adam and his wife to be banished from Al-Jannah? v. Will Allah forgive our sins if we repent and seek for His forgiveness? vi. How can we apply the lessons from Prophet Adam to our daily lives as Muslim? WRAP UP (CONCLUSION): The teacher wraps up the lesson by briefly recaps the lesson and correct any mistakes observed during evaluation. ASSIGNMENT: The students are asked to write the Arabic text of Hadith 11 & 12 of An-Nawāwi in their notebooks before the next class.
