A. The Textbook: The texts provide a good introduction to Human Development. The reading for a particular lecture is listed immediately to the right of the lecture on the next page of the syllabus. Please complete these readings prior to the corresponding lecture. We will have two tests throughout the semester on the reading. Please make sure you do the readings and are prepared for these tests. - C. In class exercises/self-created presentations: We will be assigned to a group for a group presentation on an assigned topic. This is intended to provide you with a chance to engage actively with course material, share your ideas, and learn from your classmates. Attendance at class sessions is required. E. Contact: Please contact me at [maryannerdt\@gmail.com] if you have any questions pertaining to the class. Office hours are available. You must schedule with me in advance. **[Grading Policy (How will I be successful in obtaining the grade that I want?) ]** Your final grade will consist of many types of assessment as some students are better at test taking, while others prefer papers. - You will each be assigned to a group which will be responsible for a 30 minute presentation of the assigned topic. Only a 5 minute variation in length, shorter or longer, is acceptable. This is crucial to receiving a good grade, so make sure that your time management skills are primed for your presentation. Each group member will write a paper on their topic presentation. The paper will be 3 pages (Times New Roman, 12 font, double spaced). This paper is due no later than the date on which you present. You MUST read the chapter that discusses your assigned topic before you present and submit your paper. This will be worth 30% of your grade. Please be aware that your assigned presentation title corresponds with a section of the chapter you are presenting on. You are only responsible for presenting on the information pertaining to that section of the chapter. You may use other sources, but the presentation should be on that information. The current social world of adolescents is excluded from this, and unique in that you are presenting on information pertinent to 2024. - You will have a midterm and a final. The tests will each be worth 25% of your grade. - Remember, you are expected to be up to date on each reading for every class. Class participation and attendance will also be worth 20% of your grade.
