LESSON 2: REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDIES COMP 20123 IBITS Year 18 | A.Y. 2024 - 2025 First Semester - Midterms Integrative literature review reviews – reviews, critiques, LITERATURE DEFINED and synthesizes secondary data about research topics in an integrated way such that new frameworks and perspectives on the topic are generated. Literature – any collection of written works; body of writings on a particular subject. Theoretical literature review – focuses on a pool of theory that has accumulated regarding an issue, concept, theory, Literature Review – is a critical discussion and summary of literature that is of ‘general’ and ‘specialized’ relevance to phenomena. the area and topic of the research problem in statistics. REFERENCING AND CITATION TYPES OF SOURCES Citation – A way to tell your readers that certain material in your work came from another source. Primary Sources – Accounts of the actual research that has been done. ○ ACM – Association for Computing Machinery ○ Examples: journal articles, autobiographies, Sample citation [Phillips 2001] – List correspondence, diaries, personal narratives References alphabetically, using the author’s last name. Secondary Sources – Sources of this type is considered ‘once removed’ from the actual research as it usually represents ○ APA – American Psychological Association scholarly summary of the research that has been done in a Sample citation (Raskin, 2002) – List particular area. References alphabetically, using the author’s last name. ○ Examples: review papers, anthologies of readings, textbooks, encyclopedias, biographies ○ IEEE – Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Tertiary Sources (General Sources) – This type provides clues about the location of references of a general nature on a Sample citation or [8, 10] – List topic. References numerically, in the order that you have cited them. ○ Examples: newspaper, magazine articles, abstracts, bibliographies, guidebooks, manuals Quotations – an exact copy of the original words, used in a way that preserves their intended context.
