# Fly to the Moon It may be hard to believe that people have been to the Moon, but people have actually walked on it. In 1961, Russia flew a man to the moon. This had never been done before. Some eight years after, the United States sent a rocket thousands of miles away from Earth by rocket. It took a few days to fly. The first person to step on the Moon was Neil Armstrong. He spent two hours there. Buzz Aldrin was the next person on the Moon. Other people went on the Moon too. In total, twelve people walked on it. Alan Shepard even hit a golf ball on the Moon. The image is a black and white illustration of an astronaut standing on the surface of the moon. He is looking up at a rocket that is taking off from the surface of the moon. The rocket is leaving a trail of smoke behind it. The astronaut is wearing a spacesuit and a helmet. In the background, there is a large moon and some stars.
