The transportation of Biosecurity Waste to the airside compactor, onsite biosecurity storage facility, The storage and removal of Biosecurity Waste from the unit and The cleaning procedures for transport vehicles and Collection Of Biosecurity Waste For 10.2—Biosecurity waste collection Requirements Foodfolk uses a truck carrying signage to indicate it is carrying biosecurity waste. Ensure that signage is visible “Biosecurity Waste on Board”. The vehicle(s) will carry one fit for purpose lined yellow lidded 240L quarantine bin for collecting the galley or cabin waste from the aircraft where required and one spill kit containing Virkon, at all times. Where the cabin and galley waste is to go directly to the airside compactor, a labelled biosecurity (yellow) bin will be used to transport the waste. Collection Of Biosecurity Waste For 10.2—Biosecurity waste collection Requirements The bins will be in a clean and serviceable condition prior to the collection of biosecurity waste. The bins are to be secured by straps to the containment area in each vehicle to ensure no spillages occur. As the plane is de-catered, carts are closed if not latched correctly and removed to the truck. Galley waste is collected in secure colour coded plastic bags if not already bagged. These are transferred to the lined yellow lidded biosecurity bins. Collection Of Biosecurity Waste For 10.2—Biosecurity waste collection Requirements Liners (240L bins) are then tied off securely and lids are closed once collection has ended. The vehicle must have signage stating that Biosecurity Waste is Onboard. Upon arrival at the facility, the Biosecurity waste if required, is removed immediately to the secure “Biosecurity Cool-room Storage” and the Biosecurity Waste Transfer to Storage Log (FOR2012) is filled in specifying the type of waste and quantity. Waste in biosecurity bins may remain onboard the secured truck if it will go to airside compactor disposal within 24 hours. Carts to be de-catered are transferred to the biosecurity storage area of the facility where they will be stripped and cleaned. Transport Of Biosecurity Waste For 10.6—Biosecurity waste transport Requirements All Biosecurity Waste must enter the building at the cart stripping roller door. A spillage is deemed to be major when FFA cannot readily clean it up in fifteen (15) minutes.” For a minor spill, all quarantine material will be collected and placed into fresh plastic bags, tied off the transferred to the biosecurity bins. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for dilution & use. See WIS9.2205 Cleaning Biosecurity Airline Trucks Disposal of Biosecurity Waste Disposal of Biosecurity Waste Collection from Site Foodfolk has approval to use the airside compactor to dispose of biosecurity waste. Cabin and galley waste collected at the aircraft can be immediately disposed of to the compactor. This must be contained in a yellow bin on board the truck. In the Event of the Airside Compactor being ‘OUT OF SERVICE’ Immediately inform your supervisor. Cleanaway needs to be contacted to arrange a Biosecurity pick-up of waste. Biosecurity waste is stored in a secure Biosecurity storage room at the FFA facility until it is removed for safe disposal by an authorised contractor. Cleanaway will normally treat waste receptacles after emptying. Recap Process Check you have all the correct equipment on board and signage in place. Re-bag any waste bags that are torn. Place all biosecurity waste bags into the biosecurity bin. If there are any spills, use the spill kit with Virkon and put any spilled waste into a biosecurity bag and bin. Fill in the waste collection log. Transfer to the waste compactor. Fill in the waste transfer to compactor log. Transfer any carts to the biosecurity storage room back at base. Fill in all the biosecurity waste transfer & storag logs. Clean the truck. Fill in the truck cleaning log for the truck used and sign. Process Management System Approved Arrangement Any changes that we make to our Process Management System for Biosecurity Waste must be referred to Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) for approval.
