STAGE 6 Unit focus: A Fairy Gruesome Murder Text focus: Monologue Evidence E: TV Broadcast Deborah? Is this thing on? It is? You sure? Fine. When are we live? We’re live now? You sure? Fine. Hello everyone and good evening. This is the nine o’clock news on Pinocchio-TV, where we swear to tell the truth or else our noses will grow. We interrupt our regular broadcast of Who Wants to Win a Handful of Magic Beans with an update on the murder trial that’s been gripping the nation. You may remember that the jury was called back into court yesterday morning to be given more evidence. This is not something that is usually allowed, but the judge decided to make an exception a er saying, “The wolf probably did it anyway, so what’s a little bit more evidence?” This morning, new evidence was presented to the jury that seemed to cast further doubt on the guilt of Mister “Big Bad” Wolf. An eyewitness, who chose to remain anonymous, told the jury that they saw somebody else enter the property on the night of the murder, just before Mister Wolf. That person? Clarence Pig! It’s not going too far to say that this new evidence was a bombshell to the prosecution. Mister B.A. Lamb, who has been leading the prosecution, looked every bit the lamb to the slaughter. He frantically tried to gather his thoughts, much to the amusement of the jury. In the end, the judge had to demand silence and sent the court out for a brief recess. When court resumed, Mister Clarence Pig was brought back to the stand for further questioning. You may remember that he was used as evidence of Mister Wolf’s innocence last time, but there were no such niceties from Miss White on this occasion. Over and over again, Miss White pressed Mister Pig on his guilt. For a while, it looked like he wasn’t going to crack. She presented evidence that the letter he had read before, allegedly from his deceased cousin, was nothing more than an elaborate fraud. When evidence that the handwriting matched his own was presented, he finally cracked. “You want answers? You can’t handle the truth!” Clarence Pig screamed from the stand, finally all resources ©2021 Literacy Shed http://www.literacyshedplus.com breaking his resolve. “You think you live in a world where everything is a fairy tale? It’s not. You live in a world where somebody can steal your last slice of cake and get away with it for years. That was my cake! Mine! I killed him, but I didn’t mean to. I just wanted the cake, but he didn’t want to listen. It was an accident. An accident! He threw a pot at my head and missed – I didn’t miss. I tried to make it look like an accident….” Any further confession was lost as Clarence was dragged from the stand and away to a jail cell. It’s unknown what his punishment will be, but there is a bacon shortage in the village, so who knows. Far be it for this presenter to say how the courts should work, but I’d definitely make him fry. all resources ©2021 Literacy Shed http://www.literacyshedplus.com RETRIEVAL FOCUS 1.
