STAGE 6 Unit focus: A Fairy Gruesome Murder Text focus: Monologue Evidence D: Police Statement Am I being recorded? Now? Okay. My name is Princess Aurora and this is my statement for the police. I had the strangest day yesterday. I suppose I shouldn’t be surprised: when I saw one of the fairy godmothers last week, she told me my life was about to take a turn for the bizarre. The day started like any other; I was woken by the bluebirds singing on my windowsill and a lovely family of squirrels making me breakfast. One of the maids had finished hemming my new dress – obviously, I can’t go near a spinning wheel, not after last time – so I threw that on and had a rather lovely day drinking tea in the gardens. Later that evening, I became rather peckish, but the pantry was bare. Not wanting to disturb Cook, I set out to fetch some bread from the bakers (I know that’s a servant’s job, but I enjoy the fresh air and, quite frankly, Young Jeremy doesn’t know his bague es from his baps.) They bake their best loaves at night so that they are ready for the morning. Delicious! By some strange twist of fate, I decided to take a detour through the Deep Dark Woods. I know my husband says I should avoid that area, especially at night, but I felt like such a rebel. What a thrill! Anyway, I suppose I ought to get back to the point. About halfway along the track, it branched off between the trees and terminated at a squat, rather homely co age. I recognised it immediately as the home of the Three Pigs Building Company. They completed our west-wing extension on the castle last year, so I know them well enough. That wasn’t the strange thing, though. As I stood and watched from the bushes (I am quite the nosy neighbour!), another pig knocked on the door and was let in with much excitement. “That’s odd,” I said out loud because it was. I didn’t realise there were any other pigs in this area. So, I took it upon myself to creep closer to the building to see what was going on. I couldn’t hear exactly what was being said, but it was certainly a heated argument. I don’t think it all resources ©2021 Literacy Shed http://www.literacyshedplus.com was only words that were thrown because I soon heard the sound of metal pots and pans crashing into the walls. Finally, there was a loud thud, followed by a splash, and then everything died down. Not wanting to overstay my welcome (after all, it was none of my business), I headed back to the path. As I was walking away, I glanced back (only to see that I wasn’t being followed, of course). The strange new pig ran out of the house as I watched and disappeared into the trees. He didn’t seem to notice me, but then he was so panicked I doubt he saw anything. He probably didn’t see the wolf that sidled up to the house just as he left and began to climb up onto the roof. “None of your business,” I said to myself, again out loud. And with that, I went and bought my bread. I had a panini in the end. all resources ©2021 Literacy Shed http://www.literacyshedplus.com SUMMARY FOCUS 1.
