Procedures What procedures are important in our classroom? Discussion Welcome! Have a seat and sit quietly Await Further Instructions Entering the class Entering the class I will greet you at the door! Walk in quietly through the entrance. Find your assigned seat. Read the board for directions and get your materials ready. Enter the classroom only when an adult is there. Attention signal When my hand goes up… so should yours! Do NOT speak while I am talking! Instructional Time Instructional Time Listen to the instructor with your full attention I will let you know important things to write down so you can look back at them later Ask permission to speak by raising your hand During instruction ask related questions. Anything unrelated feel free to write down on the sticky note After instruction PLEASE let me know if I need to go back over things or clarify them LeavinG the Room During Class Leaving the Room During Class If you have to leave the room for any reason, you are expected to ask permission and sign out using E-Hall Pass! Just raise your hand and ask. If you have been given the “go ahead”, sign out on the chromebook beside the door, grab the appropriate hall pass, exit the classroom without disrupting others Go ONLY where you said you would be going. You are expected to be back in class quickly, quietly, and respectfully. Sign back in when you return When you are out of the class, you are a reflection of my class… don’t give me a bad reputation! Dismissal from Class Dismissal from Class Make sure all supplies back in their place, trash has been thrown away, papers have been turned in, and everything is cleaned up. Everyone MUST be in THEIR seat before you can leave. The quietest and most respectful students will leave first The bells and announcements do not dismiss you I do Cell Phones Cell Phones Since all students have chromebooks, cell phones are not needed! Cell phones are to be in this room. There is a cell phone holder assigned to each student If you have your phone out in class… 1st time: Warning 2nd time: Phone collection within the classroom. 3rd time: Phone will go to the office and parents will be called. If you need to move around the room for any reason... Ask for permission. No one should be out of their seat unless I have given you permission to do so! When turning in work, please include: Name Date Class Period Assignment Title if given Individual work Individual Work Make sure you read or listen to the directions about your work and understand them. If you do not understand, ask help from another student around you. If you still don’t understand I would be happy to help. Make sure if you ask another student for help you are whispering and not interrupting others If you are asked for help, be polite, kind, and offer your best advice Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort to finish your work on time. Group work Group Work Make sure you read or listen to the directions about your work and understand them. If you do not understand, ask help from another group around you. If they also do not understand, ask me to explain it again! Talking to each other should be no louder than a whisper. The person sitting on the other side of the room should not be interrupted by your noise! Respect each other and be friendly. Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort to finish your work on time. All groups that are not on tasks and that do not complete their work in the time allotted will no longer be allowed to work together Share responsibility in your groups! Preparing for Class Preparing for Class The board will tell you each day the supplies you need, only those are allowed out (yes I will wait for everyone to be ready) Ask a friend or myself for supplies if you do not have them Always have your chromebook charged and ready to go! We will not use these everyday but chances are you will in at least one class Grades Grades Everything you do will be given a grade. Points will be deducted if work is incorrect, not complete or late. Be sure to follow directions. Grades will be updated by each Wednesday! Missing work can be found on google classroom or the drawer with your class period on it Be sure to check infinite campus often. If you notice a mistake on my part, feel free to let me know! I am human… I make mistakes too! Chromebooks Chromebooks Use appropriately...remember that all chromebooks are being monitored at all times. If your chromebook privileges have been taken away, you are expected to do all work by hand using pencil and paper. Chromebooks will not be used in here each day Chromebooks will be stored in the classrooms Nurse If you need to see the nurse Ask permission from the teacher first! Fill out an E-Hall Pass Once you have filled out the form, she will call the teacher you are with OR come get you. Remember to be patient!! PBIS DISCIPLINE MATRIX Let's review this together! morning entry 1. Enter the school by the cafeteria doors 2. Go directly through the lunch line, get or give breakfast then sit in the designated area for 8th grade 3. When dismissed at 7:45, go to your locker and the restroom and have all materials in class by 8:05 4. You will go to advisory after you have been released from the cafeteria and visited your locker 5. If you arrive after 7:45 you will come through the main entrance 6. Breakfast ends at 8:05 cafeteria Follow the hallway guidelines going to and from lunch. Keep hands, feet, and objects to themselves. Know his/her lunch account number. Wait outside door of serving area at the designated spot until there are only 7 students in the serving area. (Then enter the serving line on a one out – one in basis) Get all needed items as they go through the line Be prepared to pay for extra items, these cannot be charged. Stop at the cash register and clearly state his/her number to the cashier. Find a seat and be seated. cafeteria Cont. Remain in his/her seat with legs under the table at all times until your class is dismissed. (Teacher will stand in the front of the cafeteria and raise his/her hand to let you know it is time to go.) Raise his/her hand if they forgot to get something and wait for a supervisor to assist them. Use good manners and treat everyone with dignity and respect. Use quiet voices and only talk with the neighbors at their table. Clean up their eating area and put all trash in the appropriate receptacle. Follow the designated route to leave the cafeteria when their class is dismissed. Line up in a single file line until their teacher directs them to leave. Hallway (Class Change) WALK ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HALLWAY OUTSIDE OF THE BLUE TILE. REFRAIN FROM TOUCHING THE WALLS. REFRAIN FROM LEANING OR PLACING ITEMS ON THE LEDGE AROUND THE STAIRWELL. REFRAIN FROM BLOCKING THE CENTER STAIRWELL TRAFFIC FLOW. KEEP HANDS, FEET, ETC. TO YOURSELF. USE CONVERSATIONAL VOICES AND APPROPRIATE LANGUAGE. hallway (alone) GO DIRECTLY TO THEIR APPROVED DESTINATION AND BACK. NOT BE GONE FOR EXTENDED PERIODS. hallway (with adult) WALK ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE HALLWAY OUTSIDE OF THE BLUE TILE. KEEP ALL BODY PARTS, OBJECTS, AND COMMENTS TO THEMSELVES. WALK IN A STRAIGHT SINGLE FILE LINE (NEXT TO THE BLUE TILE). FOLLOW ADULT DIRECTIONS. REMAIN QUIET. Library Knock on the door to gain entrance when coming without a teacher. Go back to class if there is not a responsible adult in the Library and tell your teacher. Be responsible for items borrowed from the library Students may have two books checked out at a time. Students may keep books for two weeks. Understand that the book is overdue if it is kept longer than two weeks and will the student will have to return the overdue books before checking out additional materials. Use their Student ID numbers to check out books. Stick to the 10-15-minute time limit restrooms 1. Use restrooms between classes. 2. If a student must use the restroom during class time, they must have a hall pass. (Lanyard) NOTE: E-hall pass must be filled out too 3. Politely knock on door to see if the stall is in use. 4. Use restrooms appropriately and leave them clean. 5. Put toilet paper in the toilet. Put all other paper in the garbage can. 6. Flush the toilet. 7. Wash your hands and leave immediately. assembly Entering the gym promptly and quietly. Follow the directions of your teacher. Talk quietly with your neighbor until the program begins. Actively listen to the presenter. Remain seated until dismissed by your teacher. Show the presenters respect by listening and only interacting when given permission to do so. Afternoon Exit Bring everything with them to their afternoon advisory class that they will need to take home. Follow adult directions. Students will stay in their afternoon advisory class until their appropriate dismissal group is called. Students who are going to the high school, will need to ride a bus. Use a conversational voice and remain orderly. Afternoon Exit Cont. First run buses will be dismissed first and leave the building promptly. Exit the building via their designated route: Students in the gray, black wing upstairs and the library will exit by taking the center stairway down to the first floor and out gray wing exit. Car riders will be dismissed from the classroom in groups as indicated in the afternoon dismissal google document. Car riders will leave the building promptly using the cafeteria exit. Second run buses will be dismissed first and leave the building promptly. Exit the building via their designated route: Students in the gray, black wing upstairs and the library will exit by taking the center stairway down to the first floor and out gray wing exit. Report to the proper coach/sponsor if participating in an after-school activity. Always Remember! Let’s be safe! We need to review emergency procedures for this specific classroom! Fire - Earthquake - Tornado - Active Shooter Fire Drill Wait for an announcement before we begin to evacuate. Line up at the door quietly and turn to your right. Exit through the side doors and go down the stairs. Follow me to our assigned area We will line up in a quiet, single file line. We will take attendance immediately and report any missing students to administration. Wait for administration to tell us when to go back to the classroom Tornado Drill Line up at the door quietly and turn to your right. Follow directions from your teacher. Walk calmly and quietly to the hall We will line up and sit down along our section of the wall We will take attendance immediately and report any missing students to administration. Wait for administration to tell us when to go back to the classroom Earthquake Drill Quickly and quietly get under your desk, especially your head and neck Hold on to the desk and wait for shaking to stop We will then wait for instructions or assess the situation If needed, we will evacuate the building like a fire drill We will take attendance immediately and report any missing students to administration. Wait for administration to tell us when to go back to the classroom Emergency Lockdowns A Classroom Lockdown may be issued for many different reasons. During a classroom lockdown, staff and students can move around inside the building as needed. Window shades should be closed and doors locked. A Lockdown may be issued for many different reasons. Those reasons may include a medical emergency or the police dog has come to visit the school. An Emergency or Active Shooter Lockdown is an urgent response to a clear and present danger to the safety of students or staff at a school site. During this type of lockdown, quickly check the hallway for any students. Shades should be closed and doors locked quickly. Students and staff should take cover and hide. Active Shooter Drill When an announcement is made OR we know that an active shooter situation is taking place,our school uses the RUN, HIDE, or FIGHT strategy Let’s look at each of these in detail Please ask questions so that you understand each part of this drill! Active Shooter Drill RUN This is used only when we know that it is safe to exit the building Assess where the situation is happening If safe,exit out of the nearest door to the building Run away from the building as fast and far as you can. Where? Try to stay with your group or teacher When a safe distance away, call 911 and report your location Hide Active Shooter Drill This is used only when we cannot run away from the building because the situation is close Find a safe place that is away from windows and doors in the classroom I will be shutting the room down and standing at the door, the door will not be opened for anyone Remain as quiet and calm as possible, no cell phones Wait for instructions, do not leave the room, do not open the door, ignore all announcements and fire alarms…we wait Where do I go if I am out of the room? Fight Active Shooter Drill This is used only when the intruder is in the classroom or within 10 feet. FOR TEACHERS! Any object can be used to help protect yourself Keep yourself safe, do anything you can to stay away from harm If something happens to your teacher, do what you can to stay safe!
