Indian Army rolls out its first overhauled T-90 Bhishma tank ▪ The T-90 Bhishma, the Army’s main battle tank since 2003, is known for its firepower, speed, and protection. ▪ With this overhaul, the tank has become even more powerful and lethal. ▪ Weighing approximately 47 tonnes, ▪ 9.6 meters long and 2.8 meters wide. ▪ Its compact size enables it to manoeuvre quickly through forests, mountains, and marshy terrain at a speed of up to 60 kilometres per hour. ▪ In terms of firepower, the T-90 Bhishma is equipped with a 125 mm smoothbore gun ▪ An anti-aircraft gun mounted on top can bring down targets within a two kilometre range, and the tank can fire up to 800 shells per minute. Education Ministry launches registration portal for phase 5 of Yuva Sangam ▪ The registration portal for Phase V of Yuva Sangam, under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat (EBSB), was launched by the Ministry of Education. ▪ Yuva Sangam is an initiative by the Government of India to strengthen people-to-people connect between youth belonging to different States/UTs of India. ▪ Interested youth in the age group of 18-30 years may register through the YUVA SANGAM portal ▪ The idea was mooted by PM Modi during the Rashtriya Ekta Divas held on 31st October 2015 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. ▪ To crystallise this idea, the EBSB programme was launched on 31st October 2016. ▪ During Yuva Sangam tours, multi-dimensional exposure under five broad areas- the 5 Ps viz; Paryatan (Tourism), Parampara (Traditions), Pragati (Development), Paraspar Sampark (People-to-people connect), and Prodyogiki (Technology) ▪ will be provided to the visiting delegation over a period of 5-7 days (excluding travel days). Average monthly income of rural households goes up by over 57% between 2016-17 and 2021-22, says NABARD survey ▪ A recent survey by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has revealed that average monthly income of rural household grew by 57.6 per cent in 5 years. ▪ The second 'All India Rural Financial Inclusion Survey (NAFIS) 2021-22 found that the the average monthly income grew by 57.6 per cent, from Rs 8,059 in 2016-17 to Rs 12,698 in 2021-22 - suggesting a nominal compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.5 per cent" ▪ 66 per cent of households reported saving in 2021-22, up from 50.6 per cent in 2016-17. ▪ Financial savings also saw a rise, with the average household saving Rs 13,209 annually in 2021-22, compared to Rs 9,104 five years earlier. ▪ The proportion of households with outstanding debt increased from 47.4 per cent to 52 per cent. ▪ remarkable increase in insurance coverage among rural households in India: households with at least one-member insured surged from 25.5 per cent in 2016-17 to 80.3 per cent in 2021-22. BoB : ▪ Founded : 20 July 1908 ▪ Headquarters : Vadodara, Gujarat ▪ MD & CEO : Debadatta Chand RBI and Maldives Monetary Authority Sign $400 Million Currency Swap Agreement ▪ RBI entered into a Currency Swap Agreement with the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) under the SAARC Currency Swap Framework 2024-27 ▪ A currency swap agreement between two countries is a contract to exchange currencies with predetermined terms and conditions for liquidity support, or to ensure adequate foreign currency to avoid the Balance of Payments (BOP) crisis till longer arrangements can be made. ▪ These swap operations carry no exchange rate or other market risks as transaction terms are set in advance. ▪ Under the agreement, Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) is eligible for financing support from the RBI amounting to $400 million under the U.S. Dollar/ Euro Swap Window and ₹30 billion under the INR Swap Window. ▪ The agreement would be valid till June 18, 2027.  PM Modi and visiting Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu also launched the Rupay card in the Maldives,  inaugurated a new runway at the Hanimadhoo International Airport, and  agreed to further strengthen bilateral relations that had hit a rocky patch last year. RBI enhances transaction limits on UPI123 & UPILite ▪ The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced a series of measures around UPI123Pay and UPI Lite to encourage wider adoption of UPI. ▪ It increased the transaction cap for UPI123Pay to Rs 10,000 from the current cap of Rs 5000. ▪ It also enhanced the per transaction limit on UPI Lite to Rs 1000 from the current cap of Rs. 500. ▪ ▪ UPI123Pay is a service that allows users to make Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments using a feature phone without an internet connection or smartphone. ▪ UPI Lite is a payment service that allows users to make small-value transactions without using a UPI PIN.
