Saleh, DDS, PhD Near East University faculty Dentistry- Department of Prosthodontic dentistry The Learning Goals Student will have the ability to mention the criteria of abutment teeth to support fixed prosthodontics. Student will be able to classify fixed prosthodontic restorations according to the support. Student will be able to explain Ant's law to determine the number of abutments for fixed prosthesis Student will have the ability to mention solutions for tilted and pier abutment Definitions Bridge (Fixed Partial Denture) Bridge (fixed partial denture) A prosthetic appliance that is definitively attached to remaining teeth and replaces a missing tooth or teeth. Abutment Abutment Abutment A tooth which provides attachment and support for a bridge. Retainer Retainer Retainer The component that is cemented to the abutments to provide retention for the prosthesis. Pontic Pontic Pontic The artificial tooth that is suspended from the abutments. Connector Connector Connector The component that joins the pontic to the retainer. May be rigid or non-rigid. Saddle Saddle (Edentulous Space) Saddle The area of edentulous ridge over which the pontic will lie.
