It happened on August 1896, members of the Katipunan, the Katipunero’s led by Andres Bonifacio rose in revolt somewhere in an area referred to as Caloocan, wider than the present-day Caloocan City which may overlapped present- day Quezon City. ⚫Originally the term cry referred to the first clash between the Katipuneros and Guardia Civil. Issue: ⚫The following prominent people, stated the dates and places where it took place and where it happened. The controversy regarding this event stemmed from the identification of the dates and places where the cry happened. So when and where the Cry of Rebellion really did happen? was the issue solved? ⚫ Yes According to Guerrero, Encarnacion, and Villegas, 19th century journalists/historians all these places are in Balintawak, then part of Caloocan, now in Quezon City. As for the dates Bonifacio and his troops may have been moving from one place to another to avoid being located by the Spanish Government, which could explain why there are several accounts of the Cry. *clap* *clap* *clap* *clap* ANOTHER ISSUE: ⚫Another issue is on Pio Valenzuela’s account, He once told Spanish investigator that the “Cry” happened in Balintawak on August 26, 1896. But later on, he wrote in his Memoirs of Revolution that it happened at Pugad Lawin on August 23, 1896. ⚫Such inconsistencies in accounts should always be seen as a red flag when dealing primary sources but as we know if no document, there’s no history.
