Man as a Person Person “as an individual, existing separately and independently from others, capable of knowing and loving in an intellectual way, and deciding for himself the purpose or end of his actions” Man as a Person The word “person” comes from the Greek “prosophon” which is the mask worn by stage actors. The Human Act A human act is an action carried out consciously and freely by an individual at a rational level. Let’s delve into the details: Human Acts: These actions are executed with awareness and intention. They originate from specific human faculties, such as intelligence and will. Human acts are the material object of Ethics and can be judged as good or bad from a moral point of view. Examples include decisions made with intention, such as working or helping others. The moral value of human acts depends on factors like intention, freedom, and consciousness. Positive moral value is associated with acts like charity, while negative moral value applies to acts like murder. Acts of Man: These actions lack consciousness or freedom (or both). Examples include digestion or breathing—essential processes that lack moral evaluation. While they belong to humans because we perform them, they are not strictly human acts. Acts of man are amoral, meaning they cannot be judged as good or bad from a moral standpoint. Their ontological value (real existence) is separate from moral value. Some attributes of human includes: Belonging - a feeling of being happy or comfortable as part of a particular group and having a good relationship with the other members of the group because they welcome you and accept you Community - the people living in one particular area or people who are considered as a unit because of their common interests, social group, or nationality. Creativity - the ability to produce or use original and unusual ideas Curiosity - an eager wish to know or learn about something Family - a group of people who are related to each other, such as a mother, a father, and their children. Love - to like another adult very much and be romantically and sexually attracted to them, or to have strong feelings of liking a friend or person in your family Memory - the ability to remember information, experiences, and people Purpose - why you do something or why something exists.
