THEATER AND PERFORMANCE THEATER ARTS collaborative form of fine art that uses live performance, typically actors or actresses, to present the experience of a real or imagined event before a live audience in a specific place, often a stage. New York, October 5, 2013--Philippine National Artists Felipe Padilla de Leon and Guillermo Tolentino's 1957 opera NOLI ME TANGERE made its New York stage debut last night at The Kaye Playhouse in Hunter College (68th Street and Lexington Avenue). The musical presentation, an opera in Three Acts, follows the story of Juan Crisostomo Ibarra who returns to the Engravers' Old English BT Philippines after pursuing scholarly studies in Europe. He plans to open up a school and marry Maria Clara, his betrothed. However, parish priest Padre Damaso, the archenemy of the Ibarras, is out to hinder Crisostomo's plans, which creates "a dramatic storyline of forbidden love, betrayal and revenge." Improvised plays- plays which have been created in a short period using local experiences and local cultural forms Devised plays- plays based on ideas and real experiences if actors, without the aid of a written script CONTEMPORARY THEATER Improvisations developed from poetry such as tula- dula/dula-tula, sabayang bigkas, rap, and flip top, have garnered a top spot in popularity and audience participation for original plays, since they draw from a long tradition of using local poetry's discipline in interpreting social realities and translating these into words, sound and rhythm, movement and images drawn from the local talinghaga. CONTEMPORARY THEATER Southern Tagalog's ARTIST utilized the "bola sa kili-kili” acting style, inspired by the comedian delle arte performances to re-tell stories of historical significance in a light- mannered style.
