Not everything you see online can influence you positively THE SELF ONLINE VS. REAL SELF PERSONALITY came from the Latin word “persona” PERSONA – theatrical mask/mask being worn by people in a theater when they perform SELF IN THE CYBERSPACE DIGITAL LITERACY capabilities possessed by individuals who are living, learning and working in a digital society. You need to be digitally literate so that: you can monitor information that you get online you can protect your self from the possible things that may happen WHAT MAKES A CYBERSPACE A DANGEROUS PLACE TO BE? IN THE CYBERSPACE.. people are more willing to speak out and misbehave authority is minimized – no one is watching your social media activities Online Disinhibition – lack of restraint one feels when communicating online. TYPES OF DISINHIBITION BENIGN TOXIC Speaking about Rude language, harsh emotions, fears criticism, anger, and wishes hatred and threats Showing kindness Pornography and and helping others violence Combating Cyberbullying loneliness through Threatening, online interactions humiliating, spreading Finding emotional rumors, making fun of support others Cyber harassment or exploitation TIPS ON MANAGING TOXIC DISINHIBITIO N MANAGING TOXIC INHIBITION Be careful about sharing. Do not hang with the wrong crowd online. Consider your emotional state before posting. Consider others’ possible reaction. TYPES OF SELF- PRESENTATION 1.Self-promotion – you try to show that you are better than others so that they will admire you 2.Ingratiation – you only like people to like you; you crave for attention; you want people to follow you 3.Exemplification – you intend to make others feel that they are not good as you; to make others feel bad 4.Intimidation – you want people to think that you are dangerous 5.Supplication – you want people to DOES SOCIAL MEDIA MAKE US SAD? 1.
