Needs assessment to determine the drivers of burnout and better understand the contextual factors further exacerbating the burnout experience among employees. Identify resources and strategies such as an implementation framework or model that is relevant to the organization and may be adopted by employees. A framework that is well aligned with the organization also helps to ensure that leadership feels supported in assisting employees experiencing burnout Determining if health care workers self-report burnout and to what degree; identifying the causative factors of burnout; what interventions, if any, are currently offered mitigate burnout; and what needs are currently not being addressed or met. The needs assessment primarily consisted of close ended questions with ordinal data variables as potential responses. There was one "select all that apply with an 'other' open-ended option" that had a 150 character limit that allowed the nurses to share additional information. Examples of questions for assessment: -Demographics (age, department, years practicing, employment status) -Workload and job demand -Efficiency and resources -Organizational culture and values -Social support and community at work -Work-life integration -Meaning in work -Control and flexibility Possible outcomes or research you'd like to see: in person training/ debriefing sessions, computer based education, peer/mentor support group -wellness offerings Burnout defined: Sustained feelings of exhaustion: loss of energy, depletion, overextension, fatigue Depersonalization: withdraw, increased mental distance from ones job, feelings of negativism/cynicism related to one's job. Professional inefficacy: reduced feelings of accomplishment or productivity 2018 poll identifying the top five reasons for burnout as: 1\. Unfair treatment at work 2\. Unmanageable workload 3\. Lack of role clarity 4\. Lack of communication and support from their manager 5\. Unreasonable time pressure Implications of Burnout Organization: -attrition -turnover -low productivity Impaired quality of work -absenteeism -reduced commitment to organization -decreased morale Interpersonal: -distancing from clients -disbelief in providers effectiveness -loss of concern for clients -reduction in empathy, collaboration, and attention resulting in decreased client satisfaction -emotional separation form personal relationships -weakened communication Individual: -fatigue, gastrointestinal problems, insomnia, headaches, hypertension, depression, anxiety, suicide ideation -feeling of hopelessness, futility, despair, boredom, cynicism, withdraw, irritability, loss of morale, and isolation -negative self-concept, social withdrawal, and inability to regulate emotions
