Each seat has a removable seat cushion, contoured back cushion with lumbar support, coat hanger, head rest and a document holder. FLIGHT COMPARTMENT FURNISHINGS PURPOSE The flight compartment has seating for the flight crew and a flight observer. It also has readily accessible normal and safety equipment. The flight compartment panels give access to the aircraft flight equipment and controls. GENERAL DESCRIPTION The flight compartment has seats for the pilot, the copilot and an observer. Crew aids are supplied to help the crew in aircraft flight operations. Insulation blankets are installed where necessary in the flight compartment and can be removed for structural inspection. Access panels in the compartment give access to the aircraft flight equipment. The floor area is covered with a foam backed vinyl-coated covering. The flight compartment furnishings include these components: • • • • • • The base frame of each seat is attached to four plate assemblies which roll on two machined tracks attached to the flight compartment floor. A roller is installed in each plate assembly to allow the seat to move freely along the tracks. Each seat is adjustable fore and aft along the floor tracks by means of a lock release lever located on the inboard side of each seat. The seat is held in place by four locking pins which engage in holes located along the length of the floor tracks. Pulling the lock release lever up unlocks the seat by disengaging the locking pins allowing the seat to move freely along the tracks. The height control lock lever, located on the outboard side of each seat, raises or lowers the seat with the help of a gas spring. The recline adjustment lever, located on the right side of each seat, reclines the back rest from a range of 7° to 34°. The seat also has controls for the adjustment of the lumbar support. Turning the control knob on the right side of the seat adjusts the support IN and OUT. Turning the knob on the left side adjusts the support UP and DOWN. The padded armrests fold up to make it easier to enter and exit the seat. The armrests can be individually adjusted UP or DOWN by a knob located at the forward end of each armrest. Pilot and Copilot Seats Observer Seat Crew Storage Floor Cover Sidewall Panels and Covering, Flight Compartment Ceiling Panels and Covering, Flight Compartment SUB-SYSTEM DESCRIPTION The flight compartment furnishings supply flight crew and observer accommodation and also normal and safety equipment. The seats have a safety harness with a crotch strap, lap belts and a shoulder harness. An inertia reel controls the movement of the shoulder harness which is spring loaded to the retracted position. The inertia reel may be operated in a manual or automatic mode. Selection of the inertia reel to lock secures the harness in position. Selection of the inertia reel to unlock lets the harness move freely until a force of 2 G or greater is applied, automatically locking the inertia reel. The inertia reel lock levers are located on the inboard side of the seats. This allows each flight crew member to access the other crew member lock lever in case of incapacitation. PILOT AND COPILOT SEATS The pilots and copilots seats are mechanically adjustable fore/aft and vertically and are installed on track rails in the flight compartment.
