Famous artist “Amadeo Modigliani” FAUVISM Fauvism is an art movement that was established towards the beginning of the 20th century. Characterised by its bold colours, textured brushwork and non- naturalistic depictions. Famous Artist “Henri Matisse” DADAISM Dadaism's main purpose was to challenge the social norms of society, and purposefully make art that would shock, confuse, or outrage people. Famous artist “Theo Van Doesburg” SURREALISM Surrealism is a style in art and literature in which ideas, images, and objects are combined in a strange way, like in a dream. Famous artist “Salvador Dali” SOCIAL REALISM Social Realism is the practice of using art primarily visual art to highlight political and social issues. Social Realism takes a critical look at the poverty, injustice, and corruption within a society. Famous artist “Ben Shahn” ABSTRACTIONISM ABSTRACTIONISM Abstract art is art that does not attempt to represent an accurate depiction of a visual reality but instead uses shapes, colours, forms and gestural marks to achieve its effect. “Representational” and “Pure” ABSTRACTIONISM Famous artist are “George Braques” and “Francis Picabia” Cubism, Futurism, Mechanical Style, and Non-Objectivism) CUBISM Cubism is an influential art style defined by its revolutionary method of depicting three-dimensional reality through geometrical shapes on a two-dimensional canvas. Famous artist “Pablo Picasso” FUTURISM Futurism was an Italian art movement of the early 20th century, which aimed to capture the dynamism and energy of the modern world in art. Famous artist “Natalia Goncharova” MECHANICAL FORM An art style characterized by monumental mechanistic forms rendered in bold colours. Famous artist “Gino Severini” NON-OBJECTIVISM Representing or intended to represent no natural or actual object, figure, or scene. Famous artist “Piet Mondrian” OP-ART VS. POP ART OPTICAL ART A form of abstract art that gives the illusion of movement by the precise use of pattern and color, or in which conflicting patterns emerge and overlap. Famous artist “Bridget Riley” POPULAR ART A movement in modern art that imitates the methods, styles, and themes of popular culture and mass media, such as comic strips, advertising, and science fiction. Famous artist “Andy Warhol” INSTALLATION ART The term installation art is used to describe large-scale, mixed-media constructions, often designed for a specific place or for a temporary period of time. Famous artist “Roberto Villanueva” PERFORMANCE ART A time-based art form that typically features a live presentation to an audience or to onlookers (as on a street) and draws on such arts as acting, poetry, music, dance, and painting.
