Summary
This document describes a laboratory experiment on enzyme catalase activity. The experiment involves observing the reaction between hydrogen peroxide and catalase to measure enzyme activity. The experiment will measure the rate of the enzyme's activity by observing the formation of bubbles in the solution.

In this laboratory, we will study the activity of the enzyme catalase. Catalase speeds up the following reaction: 2 H2O2 -> 2 H2O + O2 Hydrogen peroxide is toxic. Cells therefore use catalase to protect themselves. Hydrogen peroxide will not spontaneously degrade at room temperature in the absence of enzyme. When catalase is added to hydrogen peroxide, the reaction will take place and the oxygen produced will lead to the formation of bubbles in the solution. The height of the bubbles above the solution will be our measure of enzyme activity Untitled 1
