# Quarter - I Teachings of Jesus ## Lesson - 1 Lost Sheep and Coin - **Bible Portion:** Luke 15:1-32 - **Memory Verse:** "For the Son of Man has come to seek and save that it was lost" (Luke 19:10) - **Aim:** To understand that Jesus seeks the sinners as good shepherd seeks the lost sheep. - **Teaching Aid:** Picture of a shepherd seeking the lost sheep. - **Preparation:** One man had some ten hundred rupee notes. Some notes had something written on it. Some other notes looked dirty or old. One fell down somewhere else. When the owner counted he found one missing. He felt sad. He began to search. He cleaned it and kept along with other notes. The value of our soul is more than that 100-rupee note. - **Lost Sheep (Luke 15:2-7):** One shepherd had 100 sheep. He loved them all. He counted them every day. He used to take them to green pastures and hill sides for feeding. They drank water from valley streams. The shepherd used to watch all these. One day he came back with the sheep to its fold. He counted them one, two... ninety eight, ninety nine... All 99 entered the fold. Where is the 100th one? The shepherd started to search. The way was dark. He climbed the mountain. He called "Baa-baa...mee...maa etc. Finally he heard its feeble cry. He took the sheep and went. He called all his friends and relatives to celebrate the return of the lost sheep. - **Lost Coin (Luke 15:8-10):** Another parable Jesus told is about a woman who lost her coin. She was a poor woman. She was given ten coins by her husband. She kept it very carefully. One day she found one lost. She felt sad. She began to search by cleaning every corner. She found the lost coin from one remote corner under a box. She called people to celebrate her joy. **Moral Lesson:** Jesus came to this world to seek and search the lost people. All those who are not saved are like lost sheep or lost coin. Many of our neighbors are lost. Let us tell them about Jesus and bring them back to His fold. **Questions:** 1. How many sheep were lost? 2. What are the two parables Jesus told to His disciples? 3. Color the picture/outline of shepherd searching the lost sheep. 4. Do you have non-Christian friends? Will you call them to Sunday School? ## Lesson - 2 The Lost Son - **Bible Portion:** Luke 15:11-24. - **Memory Verse:** "Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents" (Luke 15:10). - **Aim:** To understand the loving kindness of heavenly father who waits for any lost soul. - **Teaching Aid:** Picture of a prodigal son. - **Preparation:** We studied the parables of the lost sheep and lost coin. - **Lost Son:** This son wanted to walk in his own ways. Since his father was rich he used to get whatever he asks. He asked his father his inheritance. His father divided his property and gave him his part. - **Ungodly Life of Lost Son:** Soon that younger son sold all his property. He packed his luggage, took all money and went off. Father had watched younger son's journey with sorrow. When he reached the city, he found many wicked friends. He forgot what all good things he was taught at home. He became a drunkard and walked in wicked ways. Soon he finished all money. He became hungry. He sold precious things to buy food. He began to beg. - **Finding Job:** He gave a job of feeding pigs. - **Desperate Son:** At times he had stomach trouble. He thought of his home, his father, brother, servants, home atmosphere, food etc. - **Loving Father:** His father used to watch every day the way his younger son went off. One day he saw one man coming like a beggar. He recognized his son coming and embraced him. He gave him good food and clothes. There was much joy in that house. **Moral Lesson:** Our heavenly father is like that father. When we go away from God by doing sin He is waiting for our return. Our soul is more precious than the whole world. **Questions:** 1. Which son went off selling his share? 2. What did he do in far off city? 3. What did the returned son say to his father? 4. Jesus said, up to seventy times seven. - **Parable:** If somebody hurt you then you must forgive forever not for one year or so. **Moral Lesson:** Our heavenly father is like that father. Nothing happened to the house well built on the deep dug rock foundation. There was happiness, joy and safety in that house. But there was nothing on the land where the man built his house on sand. Jesus commends the man who built his house on rock as wise. But to the other He calls foolish. - **Our Life is Like These Buildings:** Those who accept Jesus as his/her personal savior is like the wise man.
