He restores my soul; He leads me in the path of righteousness For His name sake.” Lesson Objectives Understanding the protocols of divine leading Understanding that God wants to lead His children Understand how God speaks to his children and our response to him. Introduction The instructor should begin the service by explaining the concept of a compass and the term “True North.” This concept of 'True North' serves as a guiding light, enlightening us on the unchanging nature of God's guidance in our lives. Just as True North remains constant, so does God's guidance, providing us with direction, security and care. John 10:27, Hebrews 13:8 God's plan for man was to be naturally supernatural. From creation, the first voice the first Man heard was the voice of God, and the first person the first man saw was God. This shows that man was naturally living in a supernatural habitat. The Book of Genesis shows God's intentions even after man's fall, as he constantly communicated with Man. Examples include Cain, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Etc. It's noteworthy that even when these men weren't looking for God or doing mundane activities, he still found a way to connect and communicate with them. This constant communication of God with Man should inspire and compel us to maintain a strong connection with God. So, we can conclude that God wasn’t trying to hide from man. Genesis 4:6-7, Genesis 12:1-3, Genesis 26:2, Genesis 28:15 Let’s consider - The Shepherd & Sheep relationship A shepherd knows your needs even before you realize you have a need. The Lord is our shepherd; we shall not want, which means you will never lack guidance. You must understand that a shepherd must guide his sheep. The sheep are never lost because they have a good shepherd. John 10:11-16 Sheep don’t worry about where they’re going; they don’t know the way. Instead, they completely trust the shepherd’s guidance. A sheep never wakes up asking the shepherd what it will eat or drink—they trust that the shepherd will provide. This unwavering trust of the sheep in their shepherd should inspire us to trust in God's guidance. Does God want to Lead us? Many of you are familiar with the saying “God is more willing to lead you than you're willing to be led” How true is this? (the instructor can ask the audience for feedback) The issue has never been with God's willingness to guide us but rather our desire to follow His lead. It's essential to recognize that there are protocols for divine guidance. As a believer, God leads you continually—through His Word, His Spirit, and even through supernatural encounters. He has designed specific ways for you to hear His voice, but it’s up to you to desire and pursue that guidance. Habakkuk 2:1 (Instructor can give the example of Urim and Thummim Exodus 28:30, Lev 8:8. High priest using the precious stones to ask for direction) Protocols for Divine Leading (How can I be led) Hunger Scripture explains that “they that hunger and thirst after righteousness shall be filled” Matthew 5:6. We must want it, thirst for it, and yearn for it. If Scripture says you will be filled with whatever you thirst and hunger for, it is. If you thirst for divine leading, you will be led. Seek the lord first for the bread that he is. John 6:26 - 35 Sacrifice In spiritual things, the pursuit is the proof of desire: Keep asking, and you shall receive; keep seeking, and you shall find. You must be ready to inconvenience yourself, for God’s sake. Think of the carnal things you have made sacrifices for, how much more spiritual things. If it genuinely means much to you, you will sacrifice it. Romans 12:1-2 Give examples to buttress. Motive Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. God must be your first delight above all things. Matthew 6:33 and Matthew 22:37 make it clear that you are always to delight and seek God. Saul sought after the Lord and was unanswered because his heart was wrong. Worship Worship is a protocol for divine direction Acts 13:2 Worship is anything by which you demonstrate your consecration to the lord. It could be singing, dancing, living, giving, praying, fasting, etc. It is not what you do on Sunday mornings alone; it is what you do every day. Romans 12:1-2. When God looks at your heart, he must find no competition between Him and other gods (fear, worry, money, food, success, social media) in your heart. You will never lack guidance if the disposition of your heart is solely to worship God. Joel 2:28 Ways that God leads us The problem many times is not that God is not speaking, it's that we have not built enough capacity to interpret what we hear. – We need to train our faculties to be able to understand what we hear from God. – We need to stop thinking about the voice of God from a natural standpoint. – God’s voice can only be discerned by the spirit. – To hear the voice of God, you have to keep your flesh at bay because the flesh is constantly at war with the spirit. There is a disposition of the heart that dulls your spiritual hearing. Ways that God speaks to us: – By an inward witness – By a still small voice – By an audible voice – By divine coïncidences – By divine passions How do you know it’s the voice of God? With the voice of God comes boldness with a sense of urgency, a passion that won’t fade, and the will to do. In Conclusion Divine Leading is easy. If you have the holy ghost, you have all you need for guidance, you just have to be aware.
