This ATSU exchanges data with: - A/C systems (aircraft parameters), - the Printer, - the Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Airline Operational Control (AOC) centers through the HFDR, VDR and SATCOM communication systems, - and the flight crew through different Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs). These interfaces are: - the CAPT, F/O "ATC MSG" P/Bs and loudspeakers that tell that an ATC message is received, - the CAPT, F/O MCDUs and Datalink Control and Display Units (DCDUs) that are used to type, file or manage messages. The ATSU/Central Maintenance Computer (CMC) interface is used by the maintenance crew to get data about ATIMS internal or detected external failures. The ATSU sends printable data to the printer. The ATSU/Multipurpose Disk Drive Unit (MDDU) interfaces are used to load software/database into ATSU. The ATSU software can also be directly uploaded by a high-speed portable data loader through a connector installed in the avionics compartment. CABIN DATA EXCHANGE The ATSU/Cabin Terminal (CT) interface, if installed, is used for cabin administrative data exchanges in uplink requests and downlink reports. RESET An ATSU reset switch is installed in the cockpit on the reset control panel to do a software reset of the ATSU. On the COMM CONFIG page, these data are displayed: - the A/C ICAO code (received from the ATC transponders), - the A/C registration number (received from the CMC), - the ACARS A/L IDentification, - the STANDARD A/L Identification, - the MULTICAST identification set by the maintenance personnel for ATSU initialization. Characters in green are automatically received by the ATSU and cannot be modified. The cyan ones are set by the maintenance personnel. The ACARS and the STANDARD A/L IDs can be set automatically by software data loading (shown in green). The MCDU pages can be customized by the airline. The active DSP, its related mode (AUTO or MAN) and frequency are shown in Green color. It is recommended to use the AUTO mode to let the ATSU automatically tune the DSP in relation to the A/C position and the A/L preference. On the DATALINK STATUS page, the air/ground communication statuses of the VHF3, SATCOM and HF are displayed ("DLK AVAIL"/"DLK NOT AVAIL"/"INOP"/"NOT INSTALLED"). Their related applications are also displayed ("AOC"/ "ATC/AOC"). The connection status ("OP"/"INOP") of the ATSU peripherals (FMGECs, DMU, CMC) is displayed on the INTERFACE STATUS page. The status "NOT INSTALLED" can also be displayed for the DMU only. From the AOC MENU page, the flight crew can edit pre-formatted messages that will be sent to the AOC center to request or send operational/administrative data (e.g.: estimated time of arrival, aircraft position, wheel chair request...) to the airline. From the AOC MENU, the maintenance personnel can get access to the CMC PROGRAMMING and SYSTEM CONFIG pages. On the CMC PROGRAMMING page, the maintenance personnel can see if the transmission of the CMC BITE data, the ECAM warnings, the failures and the post-flight report is "ENABLED" or "DISABLED". From this page, the status can be changed from ENABLED to DISABLED and vice versa. On the SYSTEM CONFIG page, the AOC database and software part numbers are displayed. The related floppy disk identification numbers are also displayed. If the loaded ATSU software has already been customized, the initialization is done automatically. 3-Loading of the ATC and AOC software and AOC database, 4-Check of software loaded in the ATSU, 5-BITE test of the ATIMS, 6-VHF3 link test of the ATSU. These tasks will be done with floppy disks, the Multipurpose Disk Drive Unit (MDDU), the Data Loading Selector (DLS) and the Multipurpose Control and Display Unit (MCDU). Always obey the AMM procedures when you do these maintenance tasks. This uploading operation is done with a set of floppy disks. A software loading sequence (given in the AMM) must be obeyed. The loading time for a full disk is 12 minutes. After the software loading operation is completed, and if the ATSU is not automatically initialized, an ECAM warning comes on: "DATALINK ATSU FAULT - ATSU INIT FAULT". This warning tells you that the ATSU initialization must be done. This uploading operation is done with a set of floppy disks. A software loading sequence (given in the AMM) must be obeyed. The loading time for a full disk is 10 minutes. CAUTION: To prevent the erasure of the Air Traffic Control (ATC) and Airline Operational Control (AOC) application software and related database: - First upload the Air Traffic Service Unit (ATSU) A/C INTERFACE software if necessary, - Do not change the A/C power source, - Do not operate the Data Loading Selector (DLS) and the Multipurpose Disk Drive Unit (MDDU) during the software uploading. The check of the P/N related to the AOC software and database is done from the MCDU, on the SYSTEM CONFIG page.
