When you experience burnout, you feel exhausted, you usually don't spend enough time doing things you enjoy. You might stop doing hobbies that you used to enjoy and you may become ill more often than usual. As a result, people experiencing burnout feel like they can't live their lives normally anymore. - **Steps you can take to avoid burnout:** * Being perfect is not a priority. * Take regular breaks. * Stay in touch. * Find a new hobby. * Accept who you are. * Stay fit. * Eat healthy. * Enjoy small things. * Talk about your feelings. * Prioritize. * Don't overload. * Listen to your body. - **Burnout is usually caused by both decisions you make about things that you can control, for example, the amount of homework you have to do, and situations you can’t control, for example if you spend a lot more time on your homework than you have to because you want to do it perfectly. This is your choice or the result of poor time management skills.** ### 2) How to avoid burnout - *Suppose* you're dressed for walking, and the rain comes pouring down, Will it clear off any sooner Because you scold and frown? - And wouldn't it be nicer For you to smile than pout And so make sunshine in the house When there is none without? - And suppose the world don't please you, Nor the way some people do, Do you think the whole creation Will be altered just for you? - And isn't it, my boy or girl, The wisest, bravest plan, Whatever comes, or doesn't come, To do the best you can? ### 3) Studying can be stressful - Here are four tips to make life easier * **Divide:** the things you need to do into four categories: urgent and important, important but not urgent, not important and not urgent. This will quickly help you to see what you have to do now and what can wait. * **Rest:** When studying for a long time, you should know when to take a rest. This will help you to avoid burnout and continue studying. Use a clock with an alarm. After every twenty five minutes, take a five minute break and stand up and stretch. * **Exercise:** You should do exercise on a regular basis. Exercise will produce endorphin, which are chemicals that help to reduce stress. If the exercise is outside, you will also benefit from some fresh air. * **Healthy food:** You should not eat unhealthy when you are studying. A salad is quick to prepare and fruit is a better snack than chocolate. You should also avoid having too much caffeine. Water is much healthier ## Listening - **Leila:** Hi Nadia.
