We learn these nullifiers to be cautious and weary of them ourselves, not to apply these and make takfir of people. Ibn Umar narrated from the Prophet PBUH; If a person says to his brother “oh disbeliever”, then one of them will attain that title, either him if he's wrong or the other person if he's right. About the author Muhammad ibn Abdul Wahabb (died 1792 greg or 1206), his father was a scholar, became hadith of quran before 10 yr old, born in Najd Saudi Arabia, travelled to makkah and iraq to seek knowledge. Why did the author mention there are 10 nullifiers These are the 10 most common / dangerous 10 is an easy way to teach It is from the sunnah to give a number, proof: prophet use to use numbers to teach, ie; prophet said stay away from 7 major sins. First nullifier First: Shirk (associating partners) in the worship of Allah; And the evidence is His, the Most High, saying: ١١٦ ‫ض َل ٰـاًۢل َبعِي ًدا‬ َ ‫ون ٰ َذل َِك لِ َمن َي َشٓا ُء ۚ َو َمن ُي ْش ِركْ ِبٱهَّلل ِ َف َق ْد‬ َ ‫ض َّل‬ َ ‫ِإنَّ ٱهَّلل َ اَل َي ْغ ِف ُر َأن ُي ْش َر‬ َ ‫ك ِبهِۦ َو َي ْغ ِف ُر َما ُد‬ {Verily, Allah does not forgive that partner be associated with Him in worship, but He forgives what is less than that to whom He wills.} And among that is: performing sacrifices to others than Allah; such as the person who offers a sacrifice to the Jinn or to a grave. Definition of shirk Giving any of the rights of Allah to other than Allah 2 types of shirk: Major & Minor Differences Major shirk exits you from fold of Islam, minor doesn’t Major shirk nullifies all of your deeds, minor shirk only nullifies that act in particular Blood & wealth of a person who falls into major shirk becomes halal Who commits major shirk resides in hell forever “ “””” never enter heaven Who commits minor shirk will eventually enter heaven, be it after punishment or without any punishment as Allah wills. How to identify shirk 1. Learn 2. Shirk becomes known when it starts with an Alif and Lam then its Major shirk, minor is without. Muharrammat of Islam is 4 types 1. Shirk = worst of the worst 2. Minor shirk 3. Kaba-ir = major sins 4. Minor sins, and how could they be small when you are disobeying ALLAH *Allah doesn’t forgive major shirk! But the scholars differed on whether He forgives minor shirk.* Hidden shirk It was narrated that Abu Sa’eed said: “The Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬came out to us when we were discussing Dajjal (False Christ) and said: ‘Shall I not tell you of that which I fear more for you than Dajjal?’ We said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘Hidden polytheism, when a man stands to pray and makes it look good because he sees a man looking at him.’” Sunan Ibn Majah 4204 Prophet Ibrahim made dua to Allah in the quran asking Allah to protect him from the idols. Worship Worship = It is a comprehensive statement, for everything that Allah loves and is pleased with, from statements and actions which are hidden or apparent. 3 types of slaughter 1. For Allah, based upon worship 2. Permissible, for whatever reason, halal slaughter to feed guests etc. 3. For other than Allah, based upon worship = major shirk Second nullifier Second: Whoever places intermediaries between himself and Allah, calling unto them and asking intercession from them, and seeking reliance in them; has committed disbelief according to the unanimous agreement of scholars. This is the second most common / dangerous nullifier In reality, this is just an example of the first nullifier. However, this shows the importance of this one. This is the type of shirk quran refutes the most. *Placing between you and Allah intermediaries is the complete opposite of the essence of Islam.* Message of Islam in summary; ○ Prophet Muhammad PBUH came to connect the hearts of the people to their creator. Calling on Allah ALONE ۟ ‫ُوا لِى َو ْليُْؤ ِم ُن‬ ۟ ‫ان ۖ َف ْل َيسْ َت ِجيب‬ ‫ُأ‬ َ ‫َوِإ َذا َسَأ َل‬ ُ ْ‫وا ِبى َل َعلَّ ُه ْم َير‬ َ ‫ش ُد‬ ١٨٦ ‫ون‬ ِ ‫َّاع ِإ َذا دَ َع‬ ِ ‫ك عِ َبادِى َع ِّنى َفِإ ِّنى َق ِريبٌ ۖ ِجيبُ دَ عْ َو َة ٱلد‬ When My servants ask you ˹O Prophet˺ about Me: I am truly near. I respond to one’s prayer when they call upon Me. So let them respond ˹with obedience˺ to Me and believe in Me, perhaps they will be guided ˹to the Right Way˺. (2:186) َ ُ‫ُون َعنْ عِ َبادَ تِى َس َي ْد ُخل‬ َ ‫ون َج َه َّن َم دَ اخ ِِر‬ ٦٠ ‫ين‬ َ ‫َو َقا َل َر ُّب ُك ُم ْٱدعُون ِٓى َأسْ َت ِجبْ َل ُك ْم ۚ ِإنَّ ٱلَّذ‬ َ ‫ِين َيسْ َت ْك ِبر‬ Your Lord has proclaimed, “Call upon Me, I will respond to you. Surely those who are too proud to worship Me will enter Hell, fully humbled.” (Ghafir 40:60) ٥ ‫ٱلز َك ٰو َة ۚ َو ٰ َذل َِك دِينُ ْٱل َق ِّي َم ِة‬ ۟ ‫ص َل ٰو َة َويُْؤ ُت‬ َّ ‫وا‬ ۟ ‫ين ُح َن َفٓا َء َو ُيقِيم‬ َّ ‫ُوا ٱل‬ ۟ ‫َو َمٓا ُأ ِمر ُٓو ۟ا ِإاَّل لِ َيعْ ُب ُد‬ َ ِ‫وا ٱهَّلل َ م ُْخلِص‬ َ ‫ين َل ُه ٱل ِّد‬ even though they were only commanded to worship Allah ˹alone˺ with sincere devotion to Him in all uprightness, establish prayer, and pay alms-tax. That is the upright Way. (Bayinah 98:5) Third Nullifier Third: Whoever does not hold the polytheists to be disbelievers, or has doubts about their disbelief or affirms their school of thought; has committed disbelief according to the unanimous agreement of scholars. A Mushrik is a person who is involved in shirk, directing the rights of Allah to another. Why is this a nullifier; doubting the disbelief of a kaafir? Because, the reality of not believing a mushrik to be a disbeliever is disbelief! As you are now disbelieving that which Allah and his prophet said! *Allah and his messenger made takfir, how dare we nullify this takfir! You are also making equal Iman and kufr, subhannallah!* 1. From Allahs names is As-Shaaric = the one who legislates 2. The author emphasizes their doubt in the kufr of a kaafir, layluhaa ka na haarihaa, no one diverts from this path except they are destroyed. َ ‫ك ِب ْٱلعُرْ َو ِة ْٱلوُ ْث َق ٰى اَل ٱنف‬ ‫ِصا َم َل َها ۗ َوٱهَّلل ُ َسمِي ٌع َعلِي ٌم‬ َ ‫ت َويُْؤ م ِۢن ِبٱهَّلل ِ َف َق ِد ٱسْ َت‬ َ ‫مْس‬ َّ ‫ين ۖ َقد َّت َبي ََّن ٱلرُّ ْش ُد م َِن ْٱل َغىِّ ۚ َف َمن َي ْكفُرْ ِب‬ ِ ‫ٱلط ٰـ ُغو‬ ِ ‫ٓاَل ِإ ْك َرا َه فِى ٱل ِّد‬ ٢٥٦ Let there be no compulsion in religion, for the truth stands out clearly from falsehood.1 So whoever renounces false gods and believes in Allah has certainly grasped the firmest, unfailing hand-hold. And Allah is All-Hearing, All-Knowing. (2:256) It is narrated on the authority of Abu Huraira that the Messenger of Allah (‫ )ﷺ‬observed: By Him in Whose hand is the life of Muhammad, he who amongst the community of Jews or Christians hears about me, but does not affirm his belief in that with which I have been sent and dies in this state (of disbelief), he shall be but one of the denizens of Hell-Fire. Correcting and affirming their methodology Also meaning any call to unifying religions, “our brothers in the religion…” authubillah Rebuttal: Jews didnt follow musa, nor did the christians follow Isa, They didn’t follow their books torah or injeel, injeel informed the christians of the coming of muhammad using the name Ahamd;‫ُول َيْأتِى م ِۢن َبعْ دِى‬ َ ‫يسى ٱبْنُ َمرْ َي َم َي ٰـ َبن ِٓى ِإسْ ٰ َٓر ِءي َل ِإ ِّنى َرسُو ُل ٱهَّلل ِ ِإ َل ْي ُكم م‬ ٍ ۢ ‫ُّص ِّد ۭ ًقا لِّ َما َبي َْن َيدَ ىَّ م َِن ٱل َّت ْو َر ٰى ِة َو ُم َب ِّش ۢرً ا ِب َرس‬ َ ِ‫َوِإ ْذ َقا َل ع‬ ۟ ِ ‫ٱسْ ُم ُهۥٓ َأحْ َم ُد ۖ َف َلمَّا َجٓا َءهُم ِب ْٱل َب ِّي َن ٰـ‬ ۭ ‫ت َقالُوا َه ٰـ َذا سِ حْ ۭ ٌر م ُِّب‬ ٦ ٌ‫ين‬ And ˹remember˺ when Jesus, son of Mary, said, “O children of Israel! I am truly Allah’s messenger to you, confirming the Torah which came before me, and giving good news of a messenger after me whose name will be Aḥmad.”1 Yet when the Prophet came to them with clear proofs, they said, “This is pure magic.” (saf 61:6), so they didn’t believe thus they disbelieved in isa, as for the jews, Allah mentions in the quran they knew muhammad like they knew their own fathers; ١٤٦ ‫ُون‬ َ ‫ون َأ ْب َنٓا َء ُه ْم ۖ َوِإنَّ َف ِري ۭ ًقا ِّم ْن ُه ْم َل َي ْك ُتم‬ َ ‫ُون ْٱل َح َّق َو ُه ْم َيعْ َلم‬ َ ‫ِين َءا َت ْي َن ٰـ ُه ُم ْٱل ِك َت ٰـ‬ َ ُ‫ب َيعْ ِرفُو َنهُۥ َك َما َيعْ ِرف‬ َ ‫ٱلَّذ‬ Those We have given the Scripture recognize this ˹Prophet˺ as they recognize their own children. Yet a group of them hides the truth knowingly. (2:146). Islam is the only true religion 3:85 َ ‫َو َمن َي ْب َت ِغ َغي َْر ٱِإْلسْ َل ٰـ ِم دِي ۭ ًنا َف َلن ُي ْق َب َل ِم ْن ُه َوه َُو فِى ْٱلـَٔاخ َِر ِة م َِن ْٱل َخ ٰـسِ ِر‬ ٨٥ ‫ين‬ Whoever seeks a way other than Islam,1 it will never be accepted from them, and in the Hereafter they will be among the losers. Shahadah = Affirming belief in ALlah, while negating worship for anything other than Allah. Fourth nullifier Fourth: Whoever believes that some guidance other than that of the Prophet’s (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is more complete than his guidance or that someone else’s judgement is better than his judgement - like the one who prefers the judgement of the false deities over his judgement - then he is a disbeliever. This nullifier teaches us the greatness & significance of the sunnah of the prophet PBUH. 3 conditions for complete iman ۟ ‫ْت َوي َُسلِّم‬ ٦٥ ‫ُوا َتسْ لِي ۭ ًما‬ َ ‫وا ف ِٓى َأنفُسِ ِه ْم َح َر ۭجً ا ِّممَّا َق‬ َ ‫ضي‬ ۟ ‫ُوك فِي َما َش َج َر َب ْي َن ُه ْم ُث َّم اَل َي ِج ُد‬ َ ‫ون َح َّت ٰى ي َُح ِّكم‬ َ ‫ِّك اَل يُْؤ ِم ُن‬ َ ‫َفاَل َو َرب‬ But no! By your Lord, they will never be ˹true˺ believers until they accept you ˹O Prophet˺ as the judge in their disputes, and find no resistance within themselves against your decision and submit wholeheartedly. (Nisa 4:65) Allah swt made the following 3 things a condition for complete iman (nisa 4:65); 1. Judging by him, the prophet muhammad pbuh 2. Complete submission to his judgement 3. Not finding any discomfort in your heart by his judgement *Statement by Sufyan ibn Unaynah 159AH “Indeed the prophet is the major yardstick, things are judged according to him”. 2 categories of ruling by other than Allah 1. Major disbelief = Ruling by other than Allah and his messenger believing it is better than Allah. 2. Minor disbelief = Ruling by other than Allah and believing and his messenger, whilst still believing in the truth. Fifth nullifier Fifth: Whoever hates anything that the Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came with - even when he acted on it - has disbelieved. The evidence is His, the Most High, saying: ۟ ‫ٰ َذل َِك ِبَأ َّن ُه ْم َكره‬ َ ‫ُوا َمٓا َأ‬ ٩ ‫نز َل ٱهَّلل ُ َفَأحْ َب َط َأعْ َم ٰـ َل ُه ْم‬ ِ That is because they detest what Allah has sent down, so{ }He rendered their deeds worthless This nullifier is an extension of the fourth one, but it is worse because the person now hates what the messenger came with. Islam = to submit When one hates to submit is a big problem, however, remorse and regret whilst disobedient means you are still obedient. ٰ َّ ‫ض ِّي ًقا َح َر ۭجً ا َكَأ َّن َما َي‬ َ ‫ص ْد َرهُۥ لِِإْل سْ َل ٰـ ِم ۖ َو َمن ي ُِر ْد َأن يُضِ لَّهُۥ َيجْ َع ْل‬ َ ْ‫َف َمن ي ُِر ِد ٱهَّلل ُ َأن َي ْه ِد َيهُۥ َي ْش َرح‬ ُ ‫ص َّع ُد فِى ٱل َّس َمٓا ِء ۚ َك َذل َِك َيجْ َع ُل ٱهَّلل‬ َ ‫ص ْد َرهُۥ‬ ١٢٥ ‫ون‬ َ ‫ِين اَل يُْؤ ِم ُن‬ َ ‫س َع َلى ٱلَّذ‬ َ ْ‫ٱلرِّ ج‬ Whoever Allah wills to guide, He opens their heart to Islam.1 But whoever He wills to leave astray, He makes their chest tight and constricted as if they were climbing up into the sky. This is how Allah dooms those who disbelieve. (Anam 6:125) This is how Allah dooms those who disbelive. Rulings came down in Madinah, after 13 years of establishing tawhid, it becomes easier to submit. Eg, the hadith of alcohol becoming haram, mentions the streets of madinah overflowed with streams of alcohol, everyone poured it out right away. Statement of the salaf “I strive against my soul, when it comes to the night prayers, 20 years, then i enjoyed it for 20 years.” Attaining the sweetness of righteousness takes striving. 4 things to love/hate for the sake of Allah 1. Action itself (salah, umrah, good deeds,) 2. Doer of the action 3. Times which Allah loves / hates 4. Places which Allah loves / hates Sixth Nullifier Sixth: Whoever ridicules anything of the Religion of Allah, or its rewards, or punishments; has committed an act of disbelief; The evidence for this is His, the Most High, saying: َ ‫َو َلِئن َسَأ ْل َت ُه ْم َل َيقُولُنَّ ِإ َّن َما ُك َّنا َن ُخوضُ َو َن ْل َعبُ ۚ قُ ْل َأ ِبٱهَّلل ِ َو َءا َي ٰـ ِتهِۦ َو َرسُولِهِۦ ُكن ُت ْم َتسْ َته ِْزء‬ ۟ ‫اَل َتعْ َت ِذر‬٦٥ ‫ُون‬ ‫ُوا َق ْد َك َفرْ ُتم َبعْ دَ ِإي َم ٰـ ِن ُك ْم ۚ ِإن َّنعْ فُ َعن‬ ٦٦ ‫ِين‬ َ ‫وا مُجْ ِرم‬ ۟ ‫َطٓاِئ َف ۢ ٍة مِّن ُك ْم ُن َع ِّذبْ َطٓاِئ َف ۢ ًة ِبَأ َّن ُه ْم َكا ُن‬ If you question them, they will certainly say, “We were only talking idly and joking around.” Say, “Was it Allah, His revelations, and His Messenger that you ridiculed?” Make no excuses! You have lost faith after your belief. If We pardon a group of you,1 We will punish others for their wickedness. (Tawbah 9:65,66) Istihza = mocking, ridicule, making fun of, major kufr `Abdullah bin `Umar said, "During the battle of Tabuk, a man was sitting in a gathering and said, `I have never seen like these reciters of ours! They have the hungriest stomachs, the most lying tongues and are the most cowardice in battle.' A man in the Masjid said, `You lie. You are a hypocrite, and I will surely inform the Messenger of Allah ‫ﷺ‬. ' This statement was conveyed to the Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬and also a part of the Qur'an was revealed about it."' `Abdullah bin `Umar said, "I have seen that man afterwards holding onto the shoulders of the Messenger's camel while stones were falling on him, declaring, `O Allah's Messenger! We were only engaged in idle talk and jesting,' while the Messenger of Allah ‫ ﷺ‬was reciting, ‫َأ ِباهَّلل ِ َو َءا َيـ ِت ِه َو َرسُولِ ِه ُكن ُت ْم‬ َ ‫َتسْ َته ِْزء‬ ‫ُون‬ Benefits 1. Mocking the deen is major disbelief, even if you are only joking 2. Allah swt knows everything which is hidden and apparent, we can see that from the prophet finding out what happened in the above hadith through revelation, so make that which is between you and Allah beautiful. 3. Shaytan or your own nafs will always try to give you an excuse, that which is praiseworthy is admitting your mistakes, making istighfar like sayid al istighfar. 4. You’ll never be safe from the speech and the lies/slander of the people, as the best of mankind was slandered. 5. Importance of reprimanding evil, and being brave in doing so, and the dangers of not doing so, those who sat around and enjoyed the mockery or slander didnt speak up against the slander were all denounced as kufr. a. Allah said in the ayah in the plural sense you’ve all disbelieved for sitting there and being pleased with the joke approving of it Hadith bukhari & muslim, the servant will speak with a statement or word, not paying attention to it, and because of that one statement he will be falling into jahanam a distance greater than between the east and the west. One narration the distance of 70 years. From the names of allah swt is AlAziz, possessor of infinite ‘iza, Almighty, everything connected to Allah also becomes mights, his angels are mighty, his prophet is mighty, the religion is mighty, his believers are mighty. ​Look at surah hujjurat, first 6 verses are about how to interact with the prophet, speak to him, this is the way we’ve been told to venerate the prophet saw. So upon us is to venerate every aspect of this religion. The ulama have mentioned that even joking without saying words or joking with a sign or gesture is included as part of the sixth nullifier. Example, as siter walks into a shop wearing a niqab, you and your friend point at her laugh and mock without saying words, your islam is nullified. You see a brother with his pants above his ankles, your islam is nullified. This is, most importantly, a major entry point for shaytaan, as his main goal is to enter you into jahanam. Fake piety!!! When a sheikh preteneds he doesn’t know certain ppl or certain things when trying to draw an example, 1) A person mocked the religion of Allah, falling into major disbelief, is the door of repentance open for him? a. YES!!! His repentance is accepted with the following conditions; mentioned by Sh. Haitham Salhan; i. Praise Allah SWT with that which he is deserving of ii. Free himself from what you said previously, absolves himself, public for public or private for private iii. Repentance from him must be apparent, changed man, new circles doesn’t hang with the same crowd. 1. However, the one who insults the prophet saw, for him is capital punishment in the dunya, this is how rasulallah has been venerated. iv. Disclaimer, there is a difference btwn joking about the religion and joking about a person, making fun of the fact that someone has a beard vs making fun of the mans beard itself. Major disbelief vs ugly sin. 2) You see someone joking about the religion, what you do? a. Advise them, tell them the hadith and the ayat and the ruling i. Ayat to support this b. If not able to advise them, or they ignore you, leave that gathering/stop watching/stop following on socials/put an end to your participation in witnessing such crimes being committed. i. Surah anam, ayat to support this c. Hate it in your heart, this is so important!!! i. Hadith in 40 hadith an nawawi to support this We are muslim, we follow the companions and the prophet and the righteous generations, and this is our aqeedah, this is our tix to paradise, when the prophet told us this ummah would split into groups, he describe those who would be saved as those who are upon what the prophet and his companions were upon at that time. Pure islam. Sh fawzan was asked in his explanation, what is the bear minimum of joking about islam required for a person to become a kafir, reply was there is no minimum, its little is a lot, anyone who jokes or mocks the religion is a kafir, even a gesture with your hand tongue or eye, all of this is mocking, even if you roll your eyes to mock the deen.
