**PURPOSE** The purpose of this policy is to define the Regional Drill portion of the Fire Continuing Education (FCE) Program. It will establish the roles and responsibilities of personnel involved, explain the development, implementation, evaluation, and documentation of the program. **POLICY** It is the policy of the Bernalillo County Fire Department to supplement the Continuing Education program with monthly Regional Drills. Regional officers and crews will train together using valid and pertinent information, techniques, and/or methods which may be specific to their region. The goal of this training is to be easily learned, retained, and set into action. **PROCEDURE** - **Battalion Commanders (BC)** - Will manage and organize the monthly training drill within their region and is ultimately responsible for the participation of the crews in their assigned region. - May delegate, assist, and coordinate with the Captain in their region to assure that the administration and organization of the monthly regional drill is done in a timely and effective manner suitable to the region's needs. - Shall ensure that the objectives of the drill are clearly identified and accomplished and will oversee the performance of the crews conducting the drill while ensuring the safety of personnel first and foremost. - Will maintain consistent communication with the company officers to ensure that all members have received their training. - If makeup days are needed, it is their responsibility to accomplish that task. - Assure that the training is documented in the department's electronic records management system. - **Company Officers** - Assure that all of their personnel are participating in monthly drills - Ensure that their crew has been educated/trained on the topics of the drill in the event they have missed the training. I. **DEVELOPMENT** A. Four hours of ISO credited "Company Training/Drill" (CTD) will be accomplished each month by participating in a regional drill developed and implemented by the regional BC. B. The content for the regional drill must be of a fire service related concept, EMS topics do not qualify per ISO requirements. C. Topics for the regional drill must follow in line with the training objectives/direction of the department and not contradict department SOGs, P&Ps, or regional/seasonal necessities. D. This training may or may not consist of skills and concepts related to the CTDs assigned to the FCE program for the month. E. Monthly drills will be credited as follows: 1. Preparation (reviewing lesson plan/reading material) = one hour/month. 2. Drill = two hours/month. 3. Drill follow up/review = one hour/month. The BC shall ensure that all crews from his/her region cycle through the drill. B. The BC and/or Captain will brief the crews on objectives and goals of the training prior to the training occurring. The BC will submit a training roster for their personnel for the Regional Drill. 1. If the training rosters is not submitted by the BC, and was submitted by the Captain, the BC will verify the roster for accuracy. B. If the Regional Drill was conducted at a designated Training Facility, this will be indicated on the training roster. If it was not held at a designated training facility, this area shall remain blank. C. The completed roster will identify the students, the course, the instructor, and confirm that an evaluation of the lesson was administered. D. This will be logged as "Facilities Training -- Regional Drill" in the Target Solutions.
