SHERIFF’S POLICY MANUAL 7.13 SPECIAL DETAILS MARKED VEHICLE PROCEDURE: 7.13.1 Purpose: To establish procedures for deputies requiring a marked vehicle for details. 7.13.2 Vehicle Care: The Special Details supervisor will be responsible for the care and maintenance of Special Details vehicles. As custodian, the supervisor will require each deputy using Special Details marked vehicles to maintain their care. 7.13.3 Vehicle Issuance Procedure: A. Deputies needing marked vehicles for a detail will make arrangements with Special Details for a vehicle when notified of the detail. B. Vehicles will be available Monday through Friday, 7:30am - 4:30pm and must be signed out at Special Details. C. Deputies picking up vehicles will inspect the following: 1. Headlights, emergency lights, and tail lights 2. Radio equipment if installed 3. Oil, transmission, and gasoline levels 4. Interior and exterior condition 5. Equipment in the trunk D. Vehicles will be returned in the same condition as issued, to include: 1. Refilling fuel and oil levels 2. Cleaning the interior and exterior 3. Reporting mechanical difficulties to Special Details E. At a detail's end, deputies will park the vehicle in the Public Safety Building's rear lot and return the key to Special Details. If a detail is completed outside normal working hours, deputies will return the key to the Public Safety Building Information Desk. 7.13 10/01/2008 SHERIFF’S POLICY MANUAL F. Special Details will inspect returned vehicles. Inspections will be conducted before re-issuance of a vehicle. If a discrepancy is found, the deputy will be contacted and requested to correct the discrepancy. G. Deputies returning a vehicle with discrepancies for a second time will lose the privilege of using Special Details marked vehicles. 7.13 10/01/2008
