**SAMPLE LETTER OXFAM -- ex. 13**...... The Netherlands Oxfam Supporter Relations Oxfam House John Smith Drive Oxford OX4 2JY United Kingdom (UK / Great Britain / England) 28 September, 2022 (September 28, 2022 / 28th September, 2022 / September 28, 2022) Dear Sirs, (Dear Sir/Madam / Dear Madam) When I checked your website recently, I saw that you are looking for young, enthusiastic volunteers to help out at the big music festivals in the UK. This ties in with my interest in visting one of those festivals and my ambition to help people in need. This is why I hope I can be one of your volunteers next summer. I am a seventeen-year-old boy/girl from Katwijk, a village on the Dutch North Sea coast. At present I am in my final year of VWO, which is the highest form of secondary education in The Netherlands. My hobbies are playing the guitar, reading fiction and riding my bike. After doing five years of VWO my command of English is fine; I speak the language fluently. It would be wonderful to experience being part of one of the world's great music festivals and watching artists at close range. I would enjoy being there for the higher purpose of helping to promote your organisation which seeks to empower people in need. What really appeals to me is that Oxfam does not just transfer money to poor countries but that it activates people to work for a better future. Lending you a hand at one of the festivals would be a dream come true for me. I must admit that I am not a passionate tree-hugging crusader. Nevertheless, I do worry about poverty and hunger all over the world. It is shameful that we here in the West throw away a third of our food while somewhere else children are literally starving to death. I have given some thought to this, and I feel that consumers, supermarkets and manufacturers would benefit from a government campaign fostering awareness and from incentives promoting the proper use of foodstuffs. I wonder if I could have your help with a question that I have after checking out your website. Could you let me know what it is exactly that your 'shop volunteers' and 'stewards' should be doing? Do they raise money, wake people up with a cup of fair-trade coffee, hand out flyers or sell Oxfam products? I am confident that I could manage all of these activities. I know from past experience that I get on well with people. I also have a few practical questions that I hope you do not mind answering. What would be my working hours as a volunteer and would I have any free time left? I understand that there is a separate campsite for staff (members), but should I bring my own tent? And how would I be accommodated on the days between different festivals? It would be absolutely wonderful to join you as one of your volunteers in England. I would like to thank you for your attention and hope to hear from you soon. Yours faithfully,...
