Tammy George, Lyndsay Hayhurst, and Nick Ashby 8 Expanded Course Description KINE 1000 focuses on understanding the social body as key to the critical study of physical culture, health and human rights. Our point of departure is that no human being lives outside of society. Yes! Bodies create meaning and are created by our thinking (meaning) of society, culture, history, nature, etc. 10 Why This Matters in Kinesiology? Fundamental to this lecture (and to the entire course) is the question of: How do we know what we know? What meanings do we invest into our and other people’s bodies, and why? Who do we construct as having a good body? Who do we construct as having a bad body?
