Health and Safety Policies Health and Safety Policy Purpose Our occupational health and safety policy recognizes the value of a safe workplace and sets forth our commitment with respect to maintaining a safe and healthy working environment for employees, contractors, customers, and visitors. Policy Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. is committed to providing a healthy and safe work environment for its employees and preventing occupational illness and injury. To express that commitment, we issue the following policy on occupational health and safety. Management recognizes the right of workers to work in a safe and healthy environment and is committed to take all reasonable precautions to prevent harm to workers. Supervisors will be trained and held responsible for ensuring that the employees, under their supervision, follow this policy. They are accountable for ensuring that employees use safe work practices and receive training to provide for their health and safety. Supervisors also have a general responsibility for ensuring the safety of equipment and facilities. Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. will cooperate and consult with safety committees and safety representatives and other employees to create a healthy and safe work environment. Cooperation will also be extended to contractors, customers and visitors toward the prevention of occupational illness and injury. The employees of Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. will be required to support the company's health and safety initiative, to share responsibility for a safe workplace, and to cooperate with the safety representative and others exercising authority under the applicable laws. It is the duty of each employee to report to the supervisor or manager, as soon as possible, any hazardous conditions, injury, accident or illness related to the workplace. Also, employees must protect their own health and safety by complying with the Act and Regulations and follow policies, procedures, rules, and instructions as prescribed by Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd., where possible, will eliminate hazards or control them through administrative and engineering controls, and by using personal protective equipment as precautionary measures. Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. recognizes employee responsibility to identify hazards and expects and encourages employees to play an active role in identifying hazards and to offer suggestions or ideas to improve the health and safety program. Management will hold employees accountable for their legislated and corporate responsibilities. Management will review this policy annually to ensure that it remains current with workplace changes Page 3 of 47 Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. Health and Safety Policies and legislation. The policy will be signed and dated by the President & CEO. Scope This policy will apply to all employees of Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd., both full-time and part-time staff. Responsibility Management To provide the resources, information, instruction, and assistance to protect the health and safety of all employees. To understand and enforce the OH&S program as well as Occupational Health and Safety legislation. To provide employees with an understanding of the OH&S program as well as relevant Occupational Health and Safety legislation. To provide employees with proper, well-maintained tools and equipment, plus any other special personal protective devices that may be required. To provide ongoing safety education programs as required by legislation to protect the health and safety of employees. To monitor the workplace and hold supervisors accountable for their individual safety performance. To prepare and review, at least annually, a written occupational health and safety policy, in consultation with a safety representative or committee. To verify that hazard assessments are being completed properly and as scheduled. Supervisors To know and apply the company safety policy and relevant Occupational Health and Safety legislation. To ensure that employees, under their supervision, are educated to work in a safe manner and that they use protective devices and procedures required by the company and by legislation, to protect their health and safety. To advise employees, under their supervision, of any potential or actual dangers and how to isolate, prevent, or remove them. To prepare for emergencies and arrange for medical treatment, as required in the case of injury or illness, including transportation to a doctor or hospital, as necessary. To report all accidents immediately, to investigate all accidents fully, and to advise management on how to prevent similar accidents in the future. To carry out regular inspections of the workplace to ensure a safe and healthy environment is maintained. To assist with the identification of hazards and in the development of controls for those hazards, which must be properly documented. To carry out toolbox safety talks. Page 4 of 47 Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. Health and Safety Policies Employees To read, understand, and comply with the company's safety policy, safe work practices, procedures, and rules. To wear the safety equipment and personal protective devices and clothing required by regulations and company policy. To notify their supervisor of any unsafe conditions or acts that may be of danger to other workers or themselves. To report all accidents and inquires to their supervisor, as soon as possible. To take every reasonable precaution to protect the safety of other workers and themselves, as required by the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Safety Representatives To assist with accident investigations. To audit compliance with health and safety requirements in the workplace by participating in inspections. To conduct a monthly audit of hazard assessments. To receive complaints and cooperate with the employer to resolve matters relating to workplace health and safety. To advise on individual protective devices, equipment and clothing, which comply with regulations, and are best adapted to the needs of the employees. To tag and lock out any unsafe equipment and tools, and to keep an inventory of them. To make fall protection plans for each job site. To carry out health and safety orientations for new hires and new job sites. Ensure all subcontractors have provided documentation to support their safety compliance. Health and Safety Policies Health & Safety Rules Maintaining a healthy and safe workplace is the joint responsibility of both the company and each employee. All employees must become familiar and comply with the Occupational Health and Safety policy. In addition, the following rules have been implemented for the employees' health and safety. Consuming or being in possession of alcohol, illegal drugs, or firearms on company premises, or while on any company business, is strictly prohibited. Being under the influence of impairing drugs or substances while on company premises, or while on any company business, is prohibited unless permission is granted by a supervisor that one is safe to work while using such drugs or substances. Fighting, horseplay, practical jokes or otherwise interfering with other employees is prohibited. Theft, vandalism, or any other abuse or misuse of company property is prohibited. Only those tools that are in good repair, with all guards and safety devices in place are to be used. All employees are expected to keep their work areas neat and clean. Littering is prohibited. Urination and defecation in non-designated areas is prohibited. All company vehicles are to be operated in a safe and courteous manner at all times. Personal protective equipment is to be worn to comply with government regulations and company policy. All accidents, unsafe acts, unsafe conditions and serious near miss incidents must be reported to your supervisor and an Accident Report is to be completed when an accident occurs. It is mandatory that employees protect their eyes with safety glasses or safety goggles when using devices such as grinders and torches. Only those employees who have been trained, and who are competent and designated, are to operate equipment or perform critical tasks. Employees are expected to participate in training so they can be informed of methods to protect their own health and safety. Employees must adhere to Regulations that apply to their specific work as set out under the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Failure to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations or any of the above rules will result in disciplinary action, ranging from verbal warning up to and including termination of employment, depending on the seriousness of the incident. Health and Safety Policies Health and Safety Policy for Visitors and Contractors Purpose The purpose of the health and safety policy for visitors and contractors is to clarify the requirements of these parties to comply with our health and safety expectations for the mutual benefit of all. Policy Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. will endeavor to provide a safe work environment for our visitors and contractors, in the interest of our mutual health and safety. The company will comply with occupational health and safety regulations during the course of our relationships and expects the same from visitors and contractors. Contractors and visitors to company premises are expected to comply with the company safety program, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, applicable codes of practice and regulations. A health and safety orientation will be provided to visitors and contractors whenever they are expected to be working within company workplaces for extensive periods where they may be exposed to potential hazards. When an orientation is not provided, visitors and contractors shall be escorted by our employees through our premises and remain under the direct supervision of the employee. Contractors hired by Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. are required to have in place an occupational health and safety policy or program, as required by legislation. They will also be required to provide evidence of adequate liability insurance and position of good standing with the Workers' Compensation Board, prior to commencing work. Contractors and their employees are expected to be appropriately trained and competent to do the work for which they have contracted, to use only approved tools and equipment that are in good condition and comply with workplace rules, including requirements to wear appropriate personal protective equipment. They are expected to participate in the hazard identification and reporting process, to report all accidents and follow safe work procedures during the course of their work. Appropriate safety plans, emergency procedures, as well as other procedures for energy lock-out and work permits, are to be followed at all times. Scope The policy applies to all visitors and contractors who may be exposed to hazards while visiting or working at company premises. Responsibility Page 7 of 47 Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. Health and Safety Policies It is the responsibility of company supervisors to ensure the above provisions are carried out and the policy enforced. Health and Safety Policies Employee Rights Rights and Responsibilities Occupational Health & Safety Legislation outlines four basic rights for all employees: 1. The right to know. Employees have the right to be informed about potential hazards in the workplace. For example, this includes information about any dangerous substances they may be exposed to, the safe operation of equipment, and emergency procedures. 2. The right to participate. Employees have the right to participate in identifying and resolving health and safety concerns. This can include being involved in workplace inspections, participating in health and safety committees, and contributing to the development of safety procedures. 3. The right to refuse unsafe work. Employees have the right to refuse work they believe is dangerous to themselves or others. There are specific procedures to follow when refusing unsafe work, which are outlined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act. 4. The right to grieve and complain. Employees have the right to file a complaint or grievance if they believe their health and safety rights have been violated. This process allows employees to raise concerns without fear of reprisal and seek resolution to workplace safety issues. Responsibilities Managers and Owners are responsible to: Establish a safety program where required. Arrange for a safety committee or representative Identify hazards and implement controls. Maintain the program and enforce the safety policy. Ensure workers are trained to work safely. Ensure the required PPE is available. Ensure regular inspections are completed. Correct unsafe conditions. Make provisions for first aid. Investigate and report accidents. Ensure compliance with regulations. Supervisors are responsible to: Promote safety awareness. Provide workers with safe work procedures. Instruct workers on safe work methods. Detect violations and troubled workers. Enforce safety rules. Correct unsafe conditions. Health and Safety Policies Safety Representative Policy Purpose This policy outlines the role, responsibilities, and authority of the Safety Representative (SR) within Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd., in accordance with the Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and Regulations. The SR plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. It is important that both the employer and the SR work collaboratively to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. Selection of the Safety Representative In workplaces with 5 to 19 employees, the workers will select their SR. The selection process will be fair and democratic, allowing all workers to participate. The employer will provide support for the selection process, including time and resources. The SR will not be a manager or supervisor. Responsibilities of the Safety Representative The SR has the following key responsibilities: Representing Employees: ○ Act as the primary liaison between employees and the employer on health and safety matters. ○ Bring worker concerns, suggestions, and complaints to the employer's attention. ○ Advocate for a safe and healthy work environment and ensure workers' rights are upheld under the OHS Act. Hazard Identification and Control: ○ Actively participate in identifying potential hazards in the workplace. ○ Work with the employer to implement effective control measures. ○ Participate in investigations of workplace incidents to determine root causes and prevent recurrence. ○ Audit hazard assessments monthly to ensure all hazards are considered and documented, and are identified at least weekly. Ensuring Compliance: ○ Familiarize themselves with the OHS Act and regulations. ○ Monitor workplace conditions and practices to ensure they meet safety standards. ○ Report any deficiencies to the employer. Promoting a Safety Culture: ○ Assist in providing safety education and training to employees. ○ Encourage worker participation in safety initiatives. ○ Promote a culture of safety in the workplace. Health and Safety Policies Collaboration and Communication: ○ Work collaboratively with the employer to develop and implement safety policies and programs. ○ Maintain open communication with both employees and the employer to address safety concerns promptly. Authority of the Safety Representative The SR has the authority to: Access Information: Access any information related to workplace health and safety, including reports, studies, and tests. Conduct Inspections: Participate in workplace inspections and identify potential hazards. Investigate Incidents: Participate in incident investigations and make recommendations for corrective action. Refuse Unsafe Work: Advise workers of their right to refuse unsafe work and assist them in exercising this right. Support for the Safety Representative The employer will provide the SR with the following support: Training: Adequate training on the OHS Act, regulations, and hazard identification and control. Time: Reasonable time to perform their duties as SR, without loss of pay. Resources: Access to necessary resources, such as safety equipment, information, and communication tools. Protection from Reprisal: Protection from any form of reprisal for carrying out their duties as SR. Communication and Consultation The SR will regularly communicate with employees to obtain their feedback and concerns regarding workplace health and safety. The employer will consult with the SR on all health and safety matters, including policy development, hazard identification, and incident investigation. The SR will attend and participate in all relevant health and safety meetings. Term of Office The term of office for the SR will be one year. Page 12 of 47 Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. Health and Safety Policies The SR may be re-elected for subsequent terms. Review and Evaluation This policy will be reviewed and evaluated periodically to ensure its effectiveness. The SR will be involved in the review and evaluation process. Record Keeping The SR will maintain records of all activities, including inspections, investigations, and communications. These records will be made available to the employer and government inspectors upon request. Confidentiality The SR will maintain confidentiality of any sensitive information obtained in the course of their duties. Health and Safety Policies Hazard Management Policy Purpose The purpose of the hazard assessment is to identify hazards so we can better manage and control the health and safety of employees, customers and other visitors in our workplace. Policy It is the policy of Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. to conduct hazard assessments and review the findings with the safety representative. Hazard assessments will be completed as follows: A comprehensive hazard assessment will be completed for the company by a management representative and reviewed by the safety representative. Hazards will be documented, critical tasks determined, and controls will be implemented for subsequent monitoring. Corrective actions are to be taken to ensure all hazards remain under control. The hazard assessment, once completed, is to show a date and signatures, confirming that corrective actions have been taken, and then, it is to be returned to the manager for review and filing. A comprehensive review of hazards will be completed annually at each location and reviewed by the safety representative and a management representative. Controls are to be implemented, as required. All employees are expected to identify and report to their supervisor any hazards discovered during their daily work activity. A job site hazard assessment form is provided for reporting hazards. Employees are expected to ensure that hazards are controlled prior to commencing work. Appropriate personal protective equipment is to be worn as a precautionary measure, to complement other hazard controls, when hazards are present. Contractors are expected to conduct hazard assessments prior to starting jobs assigned to ensure site hazards are identified and appropriate controls are in place. Scope Workplace hazards are to be identified within our operations, controls implemented, and the process reviewed annually. Employees will be expected to contribute to the identification and reporting of hazards. Supervisors and safety representatives will participate in the annual hazard review process at their specific locations. Responsibility It is the responsibility of management and the safety representative to conduct a documented review of hazards to ensure appropriate controls are in place. Supervisors are to ensure that corrective actions are Page 14 of 47 Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. Health and Safety Policies taken to eliminate or control hazards, once identified. All employees are expected to report hazards to their supervisor on an ongoing basis so that appropriate actions can be taken to prevent injury and illness. Contractors are responsible to conduct job site hazard assessments and implement appropriate control measures prior to starting work that has been requested and forward copies of these assessments to Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. with their job reports. Health and Safety Policies Safe Work Practice Policy Purpose Safe work practices provide an effective means to control hazards and prevent accidents and are generally the safety "dos and don'ts" associated with completing a job. Safe work practices are safety rules intended to make the workplace safer for all concerned. Policy Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. expects all employees and contractors to complete their work in a safe manner. In doing so, employees and contractors are expected to follow the safe work practices that have been provided, as they apply to specific jobs where critical tasks are performed. Safe work practices will be written and reflect safety regulations, manufacturer's precautions and other general safety rules that apply to the use of equipment or work methods. Employees are expected to participate in the development and implementation of safe work practices. The safety committee or representative, and supervisors will review and update safe work practices annually. Scope All employees and contractors are expected to review and follow applicable safe work practices in the course of their work. Safe work practices will apply to all departments and to all employees within the departments. Responsibility It is the responsibility of supervisors to ensure their staff is trained and familiar with safe work practices that apply to their specific work and to ensure that safe work practices are available to their staff. Employees and contractors are responsible to learn, use and review safe work practices and to comply with regulations and codes of practice. Health and Safety Policies Safe Job Procedure Policy Purpose A job procedure is a specific method of completing a job. Job procedures are written in a step by step sequence. These sequences are provided in a given order when it is critical that the job be carried out in the order provided to achieve both quality and safety standards. Job procedures will be written to provide a safe and effective process for completing tasks safely. Policy Job procedures will be developed for critical tasks, where it is necessary to complete a job in a specific order so that it is done safely. Job procedures will be available to employees for reference when performing these tasks. They will address hazards associated with the completion of specific tasks and contain safe work practices necessary to avoid personal injury. Employees are expected to contribute to the development of job procedures, to follow the procedures and review them periodically. Periodic reviews will be conducted during safety talks and help employees stay familiar with the specific precautions to be taken. Management and the safety representative will review job procedures annually to ensure they remain current and appropriate for work performed. Scope All employees and contractors are expected to follow the job procedures provided as they relate to their work. Responsibility Supervisors are responsible to ensure workers are trained and follow job procedures. All employees are responsible to become familiar with job procedures and follow specifically developed procedures while completing critical tasks. Health and Safety Policies Personal Protective Equipment Policy Purpose Personal protective equipment will be used by employees as a means of controlling or minimizing the effects of hazards in our workplace. PPE will be used as a precautionary measure after other controls are in place. Policy Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. will prevent and minimize injuries to employees through the use of personal protective equipment. The company expects all employees to follow this policy and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations. Employees will be trained in the use of personal protective equipment, in its care, importance of fit and regulatory requirements. Where hazards exist, employees will wear CSA approved personal protective equipment, including safety footwear, safety glasses, gloves and hearing protection, to control hazards. Safety footwear is always to be worn by site workers. Employees are to provide their own CSA approved safety footwear, safety glasses or safety goggles, gloves, hard hats, reflective vests, etc. Additional PPE may be required depending on the hazard. All PPE will conform to provincial Regulations and CSA standards. Employees are expected to wear PPE, as required, to inspect PPE before use and take reasonable care to maintain PPE in good condition. Shop supervisors are to complete an annual inspection of PPE and replace any damaged equipment. Records of this inspection are to be maintained. Personal protective equipment, supplied by Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd., will remain the property of the company. When worn to an unacceptable condition, PPE is to be returned to the supervisor for replacement. Employees will be expected to sign for all PPE issued and replaced. Scope This policy applies to all employees while working, where there is a risk to their health or safety. Responsibility Supervisors are responsible to ensure personal protective equipment is available and that employees wear the required PPE. They must ensure that PPE is inspected thoroughly, at least annually, that defective equipment is replaced and records maintained. Employees are responsible to ensure that they comply with the policy and with regulations on the use of PPE. Employees must also inspect and Page 18 of 47 Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. Health and Safety Policies Maintenance Policy Purpose All critical tools, equipment, vehicles and devices in the company, will be maintained to prevent injury and illness to employees, customers and visitors. Policy Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. will maintain its vehicles, tools, and equipment so that injury to employees, customers and visitors can be prevented. Critical items will be included in a maintenance program and will be used and maintained according to codes of practice, regulations and manufacturers' specifications. Critical tools and equipment will be listed on a maintenance schedule and supervisors will ensure that training in the use of such critical equipment is provided to all designated users, and that maintenance is carried out by trained and qualified personnel. Schedules will be followed, and records will be maintained to document specific maintenance functions. All employees shall visually inspect tools and equipment before use to ensure they are free from obvious hazards or need for repair. Defective equipment is to be taken out of service and tagged, until repaired or replaced, or returned to the supervisor for disposal. Scope All critical equipment, tools, vehicles, and other devices that have the potential to cause personal injury, illness, or damage to property, will be covered by the policy. All employees who use such critical equipment are expected to know and follow the maintenance policy. Responsibility It is the responsibility of supervisors to ensure that maintenance schedules are followed, that designated users are trained, and that maintenance is carried out by qualified personnel. Employees are responsible to inspect vehicles and equipment before use, to cooperate with supervisors in the enforcement of this policy and to tag out defective equipment to prevent injury. Health and Safety Policies Inspection Policy Purpose Workplace inspections will help to control loss and better manage our business interests by ensuring hazards are promptly identified and controlled. It is the intent of Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. to monitor our workplaces to ensure hazards remain under control and to provide an opportunity to identify any new hazards so that they can be eliminated or appropriate controls can be implemented. Policy It is the policy of Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. to monitor our workplaces and maintain a program of safety inspections of our facilities, including our vehicles and equipment. The objective of this program is to control hazards in the workplace and identify any new hazards so that appropriate actions and controls can be implemented. All Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. facilities will be included in the inspection program. The company will inspect each site weekly and maintain records of these inspections. These formal and written inspections shall be conducted by management or a person designated by management and involves the participation or review of safety representative. Supervisors are to take appropriate action to ensure that hazards are eliminated or remain under control. Corrective actions are to be noted and records maintained on file. Visual inspections will be conducted by all employees on a regular and ongoing basis, so that they are aware of any hazards in their work environment, prior to starting work. This includes, but is not limited to, work on: Roofs Scaffolding Ladders Elevated work platforms Stairwells Elevator shafts Multi-story buildings Any other elevated surface with a potential fall hazard Responsibilities Management: ○ Ensure that all work at heights is properly planned, supervised, and conducted in accordance with this policy and applicable legislation. ○ Provide adequate resources, including fall protection equipment, training, and supervision. ○ Regularly inspect work areas to identify and control fall hazards. ○ Enforce the use of fall protection systems and ensure compliance with this policy. Supervisors: ○ Ensure workers are trained and competent to perform work at heights safely. ○ Conduct pre-job hazard assessments and implement appropriate fall protection measures. ○ Supervise work activities and enforce the use of fall protection equipment. ○ Immediately address any unsafe conditions or practices. Fall Protection Hierarchy of Controls Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. will follow the hierarchy of controls to eliminate or minimize fall hazards: 1. Elimination: Eliminate the fall hazard altogether by performing the work from the ground or using alternative methods. 2. Engineering Controls: Install physical barriers such as guardrails, safety nets, or temporary flooring to prevent falls. 3. Administrative Controls: Implement safe work practices, procedures, and training to minimize the risk of falls. 4. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Use fall arrest systems, travel restraint systems, or positioning devices as a last resort when other controls are not feasible or do not provide adequate protection. Fall Protection Systems When work at heights cannot be avoided, the following fall protection systems will be implemented: Guardrails: Where feasible, guardrails will be installed to prevent falls from roofs, elevated platforms, and other elevated surfaces. Safety Nets: Safety nets may be used where other fall protection systems are not practical, such as when working over water or in areas with limited access. Fall Arrest Systems: Fall arrest systems, consisting of a full-body harness, lanyard, and anchorage connector, will be used to arrest a fall and prevent contact with a lower level. Travel Restraint Systems: Travel restraint systems will be used to prevent workers from reaching the edge of a fall hazard. Positioning Devices: Positioning devices may be used to allow workers to work with both hands free while being supported on an elevated surface. Training All workers who are required to work at heights will receive comprehensive fall protection training that includes: Fall hazard recognition and assessment Selection, inspection, and proper use of fall protection equipment Safe work procedures for working at heights Emergency procedures in case of a fall Page 43 of 47 Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. Health and Safety Policies Inspection and Maintenance All fall protection equipment will be inspected annually by a competent person to ensure it is in good working order. Any damaged or defective equipment will be removed from service immediately. Fall protection systems will be maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and applicable standards. Rescue Plan A written rescue plan will be developed and implemented for all work at heights to ensure the prompt and safe rescue of a worker in the event of a fall. The plan will include: Procedures for identifying and reporting a fall Methods for accessing and rescuing a fallen worker Emergency contact information Training for rescue personnel Documentation All fall protection training records will be maintained. Inspection and maintenance records for fall protection equipment will be documented. Hazard assessments and safe work procedures will be documented in writing. Health and Safety Policies Fall Protection Rescue Plan Purpose This policy outlines the procedures for the safe and timely rescue of a worker who has fallen or is suspended in a fall arrest system at Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. It is designed to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Nova Scotia and the Workplace Health and Safety Regulations, specifically Part 21: Fall Protection. Scope This policy applies to all work at heights where there is a risk of falling 3 meters or more, or the work area is above an injurious surface or thing or above hazardous material, and where fall arrest systems are used. Responsibilities Competent Person: A competent person will be designated to develop, implement, and oversee a site-specific rescue plan. This person will have the knowledge, training, and experience to identify fall hazards, assess risks, and implement appropriate rescue procedures. Rescue Team: A trained rescue team will be readily available to respond to fall incidents. The team will consist of individuals who are trained in: ○ Fall protection systems and equipment ○ Rescue techniques ○ First aid and CPR ○ Use of rescue equipment Supervisor: The supervisor will ensure that the rescue plan is implemented effectively and that all workers are aware of their roles and responsibilities in the event of a fall. Workers: All workers who work at heights will be trained in the rescue plan and their role in assisting with a rescue. Rescue Procedures 1. Activate the Emergency Response: ○ If a worker falls or is suspended in a fall arrest system, immediately activate the emergency response by calling 911 and notifying the designated competent person and supervisor. ○ Clearly communicate the location of the incident and the nature of the emergency. 2. Assess the Situation: ○ The competent person or rescue team leader will assess the situation to determine the safest and most effective rescue method. Page 45 of 47 Folded Architectural Finishes Ltd. Health and Safety Policies ○ Consider the worker's condition, the type of fall arrest system, the location of the incident, and any potential hazards. 3. Implement the Rescue: ○ The rescue team will implement the appropriate rescue method, using the following options as applicable: Self-Rescue: If the worker is conscious and able, they may be able to self-rescue using a self-rescue device or by climbing to a safe location. Assisted Rescue: The rescue team may assist the worker by providing a ladder, lift, or other means of access to a safe location. Technical Rescue: If the worker is unable to self-rescue or be assisted, a technical rescue may be required, involving specialized equipment and techniques such as rope rescue systems. 4. Provide First Aid and Medical Attention: ○ Once the worker has been rescued, provide first aid and medical attention as needed. ○ Ensure the worker is transported to a medical facility for further evaluation and treatment if necessary. Rescue Equipment The following rescue equipment will be readily available at the worksite: First aid kit Communication devices (e.g., two-way radios, cell phones) Rescue rope and harnesses Descent control devices Anchorage connectors Ladders or lifts (if applicable) Other specialized rescue equipment as determined by the competent person Training All members of the rescue team will receive comprehensive training in: Fall protection systems and equipment Rescue techniques and procedures First aid and CPR Use of rescue equipment Emergency communication protocols Practice Drills Regular practice drills will be conducted to ensure the rescue team is proficient in the rescue plan and can respond effectively in the event of a fall.
