HOFFMAN ESTATES FIRE DEPARTMENT STANDARD OPERATING GUIDELINES SOG Category & Identification Number: EFFECTIVE DATE: Equipment Guidelines – 011 January 1, 2022 NIMS COMPIANT SOG Title: Straps, Gut Belts, Harness for Use Revision: on Aerial Ladders 3 APPROVED BY: NUMBER OF PAGES: Re-evaluation Date: Alan Wax January 1, 2025 Fire Chief 1 PURPOSE When operations must be performed from an aerial ladder or tower basket, fall protection shall be worn by the firefighters completing the operation. POLICY Fall protection (an approved harness with appropriate attachment device) shall be used whenever personnel are performing tasks from the aerial ladder or tower basket, while off the ground greater than six feet. PROCEDURE All members of the Hoffman Estates Fire Department have been assigned one Corona Fire Resistant Escape Belt (Rescue Tech). The Truckmans Escape Belt (Rescue Tech) or a Class 1 harness with a lanyard shall be worn by personnel assigned to perform tasks from the tower basket, while off the ground greater than six feet.
