Key Findings: - Kids who spent >1 hour per day on tablets at age 3 had increased levels of anger and frustration at age 4. Kids with high levels of anger and frustration at age 4 then went on to use tablets even more at age 5. Haidt recommendations No smart phones before high school No social media before age 16. Phone-free schools More independence and free play The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommendations : Age 2 and under: avoid media use (except video chatting). Preschoolers: No more than one hour of high-quality programming per day. Grade-schoolers/Teens: Don’t let media displace other important activities such as quality sleep, regular exercise, family meals, “unplugged” downtime. All ages: Be a media mentor. Co-view media with your kids. Avoid fast-paced programs, violence in programs and gender and ethnic stereotypes.
