-cheating is rampant and happening in this class -someone had their phone out and another was sharing and had same mistakes as someone else on every question -if someone is caught cheating they will get 0 for the test and if happens again 0 for the course and then suspension and then expulsion -because of the people cheating we are moving to in paper tests, it is a shame there are people who lack the integrity to answer the questions on their own Nature/Nurture -what does nature refer to -- the biology of a person -what does nurture refer to -- environment and things that happen to you -what if there was a robber whose behaviour is driven by his biology or if they were nurtured to have the behaviour -- if he responsible? -the human genome is a shared genetic profile -- contains all genetic material and is a complete set of instructions for creating an organism -- makes us human \*\*\*NEED TO KNOW -genes -- biochemical units of hereditary that make up chromosomes -- when expressed (used) they provide the body's building blocks -we each get 23 pair of chromosomes (23 each from mother and father) x and y aren't matched as they are missing some genes on the y chromosome -chromosomes are the protein structure -- single molecule of DNA -DNA is a molecule that contains your entire genetic code -- two strands are connected by a double helix -we have about 20000 genes (some are express or active and some are depressed or inacgive) -all genetic material in an organism are called genome -most of our traits have genetic roots -heredity -- genetic transfer from parent to child -- when we think about why we do the things we do we can study this through twin studies -- study the effects of environment on behaviour -- separated identical twins have the same genes and parents maintain the home environments -- even if identical twins live in different home there are traits that are the same , abilities interests, tastes, activities, fears and physiology, brain waves, heart rate (same nature different nurture for experiment) -when we look at twins there are identical and fraternal -- identical twins come from the same egg and splits, fraternal twins there are two eggs fertilized by different sperm -NEED TO KNOW -- identical twins are MONOZYGOTIC and fraternal twins are DIZYGOTIC -zygote -- is a fertilized egg when continues to divide in two repeatedly -- does this suggest a biologic similarity or do people find similarities by chance -- siblings can be opposite but come from similar genetic material, is this nature or nurture -Minnesota twin family study -- studied 9800 twin siblings and parents to find out similarities and differences -- identical and fraternal twins raised together and apart -- identical twin reared away from cotwin has an equal chance of being similar as raised together (personality, interests and attitudes) -- leads us to believe similarities between twins are nature and differences are mostly nurture -twins separated and adopted to different families at 4 weeks -- parents didn't know each other but both were named James (both married women with the same name and are divorced from people with the same name) -- one named the first son James Alen and the other named his first son James Allen -- both twins have an adopted bother named Larry -- both had some law enforcement training nd had been part time deputies in Ohio -- each did poorly in spelling and good in math -- each did block letter -- each vacation in Florida in the same 3 block area both started experiencing tension headaches at the same time -- both gained weight at the same time -
