Applied Health Sciences Technology Blood Banking (HLBB-401) Course Lecturers Dr. Hadeel Said Dr. Nesrine Helaly Lecture : G516 12.30-12.30 Sunday Course assistants Dr Nahla Henfy Dr Esraa Mohamed Course aims This course will focus on common blood bank equipment as regards principle, operation, and maintenance. The student will have a general idea about blood group systems particularly ABO and Rh, the rationale use of blood and blood components and the hazards of blood transfusion and others. Course aims Emphasis is placed on the concept of blood cold chain, quality control of components, the importance of documentation in blood banking, and routine blood bank procedures including; blood grouping, typing and their tests, antibody screening and identification, compatibility testing used in the identification of antibodies. Selected topics include, blood donor screening, and phlebotomy and blood component preparation Course Content lectures Introduction to Blood Banking Blood banking equipments & documentation Blood Donation Blood Group Systems (Part I: ABO and RH). Blood Group Systems (Part II : Other blood groups). Blood components ,Storage& Preservatives.
