SH1904 COURSE TOPICS OUTLINE This course will focus on developing your understanding, skills, and responsibility as a modern media and information literate individual. You will also be taught the fundamentals of computer science as a needed skill in the modern world. Unit 1: Background of Media and Information: The development of media and information is influenced by societal trends and the literacy of its users. I. TOPICS TO BE DISCUSSED A. What does media, information, and technology (MIT) literacy mean? Focused on understanding the key areas of media and information. Reference material: 01 Handout 2, 01 LCD Slides 1 B. The media and information literate individual Showcases the development and evolution of media across different periods and relates these changes to the individuals of society and their culture. Also discusses the different habits and lifestyles of MIT literate individuals. Reference material: 01 Handout 2 C. Communication skills VS. Computer skills in the modern world Differentiates the demand, needs, and use of traditional communication versus modern communication. Emphasizes the need of computer skills in the modern world. Reference material: 01 LCD Slides 1 II. IMPORTANT THINGS TO NOTE A. This is a flipped classroom. All readings must be done at home and before coming to class. Contact period will focus on application, activities, and synthesis. Some activities will require you to access the Internet outside of class hours. Most of the assessments will be done online. B. There are two (2) separate Task Performances/iLS activities.
