R1- QUARTER II- MODULE 3 TYPES OF RESEARCH LEARNING HOW TO WRITE A SCIENTIFIC REPORT ENABLES YOU TO PRESENT YOUR THOUGHTS OR IDEAS IN SOME FIELD OF STUDY. LET US HAVE A RECALL OF HOW TO WRITE SCIENTIFIC REPORTS. MATCH COLUMN A WITH COLUMN B. D. C. E. B. A. 1. What idea do you think the DENR has in putting this dolomite as a substitute to natural white sand? The government says the beautification of the bay will “signify cleanliness. 2. HOW WILL DOLOMITE AFFECT THE ECOSYSTEM OF THE MANILA BAY? DENR Undersecretary Benny Antiporda said in a PhilStar.com report, “Kami sa DENR pinag-aralan natin ‘yan. In the first place ‘yung mga ginamit d’yan, especially ‘yung sand, ‘yung dolomite boulders na ‘yan it contains calcium carbonate and if you will look sa corals, calcium carbonate din. So it will not disrupt the coastal ecosystem.” 2. HOW WILL DOLOMITE AFFECT THE ECOSYSTEM OF THE MANILA BAY? The sand from the baywalk area could also transfer to other areas of the bay where there are mangrove trees, beaches, and mudflats. De Jesus said if the dolomite polluted these – where shellfish, crabs, and fish nurseries thrive – they would become less habitable. Worms live here, too, which serve as 3.How will you find out if dolomite harms marine life and the people? Don’t just settle on issues and opinion. Make a research. 4. Can you say that people are trying to manipulate nature? Why do you say so? We often deviate from the law of nature. 5. If you will be given the chance to be one of the DENR officials, what could be the best way to beautify Manila Bay? How will you do it? #Bb. 9-STE Pilipinas. #G. 9-STE Pilipinas TYPES OF RESEARCH: BASIC RESEARCH. when the researcher focuses on the truth or the development of concepts that make it fundamental. With background knowledge, it can test, refine, modify, or develop theories or concepts. TYPES OF RESEARCH: BASIC RESEARCH. Theory of Relativity Theory of Evolution Laws of Motion Law of Conservation of Energy TYPES OF RESEARCH: PURE RESEARCH. Gathering knowledge for knowledge’s sake is the sole purpose of basic research TYPES OF RESEARCH: APPLIED RESEARCH.  if the research is done to find an application of the knowledge whether new or old It is used to find solutions to everyday problems. Assuming that your intention is to apply your chosen research to societal problems or issues and finding positive changes in society, it is an example of applied research-- TYPES OF RESEARCH: APPLIED RESEARCH. Santa Maria Garbage Solution Improve agricultural crop production; Treat or cure a specific disease; Improve the energy efficiency of homes, offices, or modes of transportation; Suggest innovative and modified methods of measurement in any specific investigation. CLASSIFICATION OF APPLIED RESEARCH. Descriptive research describes what exists and may be able to help uncover new facts and meanings. This research describes the characteristics of the subject. It does not answer “why” the characteristics occurred, rather, it answers the questions “how” and “what” the characteristics are being DESCRIPTIVE RESEARCH In a descriptive type of research, you cannot manipulate the changes as it happens in nature. You should use your observation and record certain changes. Historical research is an example of descriptive research. Cultural Changes in Modern World EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH Is when you put factors that interfere with what nature provides. For example, a researcher wishes to control the spread of dengue, he observes the growth of dengue mosquitoes and introduces a chemical at various stages of its development to find out which stage is most responsive to the treatment. The chemical treatment is not part of the natural setup. EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH It is important that you set your aims or goals before you choose the type of research that is applicable to your investigations. The said goals are discussed in Module 1 such as : generating new knowledge or information, finding an application for the new knowledge, verifying existing knowledge, and developing the investigator. EXPERIMENTAL RESEARCH Got Germs? Antibacterial hand sanitizers: Hype or Help? Factors Affecting the Implementation of Science Investigatory Projects and its Implications to the National Science and Technology Fair IDENTIFY WHAT TYPE OF RESEARCH IS MOST SUITABLE FOR THE GIVEN RESEARCH QUESTION/TOPIC/ HYPOTHESIS.
